Re: FAO Per: The sinking of the SS Faro

Surprised that no-one has picked up on the frigate that presently hughs the cliffs on the west coast of Norway. Google KNM Helge Ingstad. A 400.00.000 GBP war machine sunk due deep and profound incompetence on so many levels that it's hard to believe. I've been laughing for days. At least they all ...

Funny moments in aviation-related journalism

https://www.boston.com/culture/travel/2018/11/16/logan-airport-best-in-country The URL reads "Logan airport best in country" The headline says "ranked... as one of the top 10". The article text says my friendly local airport is ranked exactly #10... out of 20 . Wow, I'm so impressed. :roll:

Re: Lion Air Flight 610

Never mind the oft-cited scenario of CFIT due to pilot(s) being distracted trying to figure out why a "gear down" lamp is failing to light. In this case of course it would be because most 172s don't have retractable landing gear. :lol:

Re: Lion Air Flight 610

Pray tell, how would you crash a Cessna 172 then? There are many. Here is a sampling: -Power-off, unplanned landing- likely "less than good" by "insider definitions". -Stupid IMC encounter (possibly . -Getting run over by Flyboy. -Spin out of a base-to-final turn (as punishment for all of my braggi...

Re: Rudder use

IMHO people are taking this rudder-reversal business a little too seriously, and/or are not understanding the subtleties of the concept. I'm pretty sure on most airplanes, if the rudder is pushed to one side, you are not forbidden to push it in the other direction from that time until the plane reac...

Re: From Aviation Typists Part xxxx

I once sent my wife a link to a similar aircraft that was for sale, arguing that while baggage capacity is somewhat limited and it's not the most comfortable ride, being able to travel from MA to OH to visit her family in half an hour might make up for it.

For some reason she wasn't interested. :?

And then there is this:
Quote = Wikipedia

The Premier I is constructed with a high-strength composite, carbon fiber/epoxy honeycomb structure fuselage.
No wonder it is damaged beyond repair. :roll:
In the interest of fairness, I wish to point out that geese are also made of composites.

Re: F.A.O.: Gabriel

Evan and Gabe may disagree- but for an aircraft carrier ...I would be very ok with 3000 PSI straight to the brake pads! Well... when trying to land an aircraft with a 195-foot wingspan on a deck with ~120' clearance from the runway centerline to the superstructure, directional control could be impo...
