Re: Southwest engine went boom
Never mind the force on your body due to the pressure difference inside vs. outside the plane, once you're stuck in the opening.
9 PSI times... what's the surface area of an airliner window? Say the window is 10" x 12", that's 120 square inches times 9 PSI, that's 1080 lbs. of force.

Re: Southwest engine went boom
Presumably this is not the case on WN (their flights are still general admission, right?) but there would be some massive irony here if the passenger in question had paid extra for a window seat.

Re: Southwest engine went boom
I wonder how much difference it would make? I'm not being sarcastic, I really do wonder. Unbelted your body gets pulled toward the window, your head probably goes outside the plane, and you get to experience a X00 MPH slipstream, low atmospheric pressure, and below-zero temps. Plus air trying to exi...

CNN:

And... wait for it... pax are describing this 3,400 FPM descent as a "free fall".Flight information provided by FlightRadar24 showed the plane went from approximately 30,000 feet to 13,000 feet in five minutes.

Re: Fumes kills pilot
Yeah I've got no problem with giving the oil all the help it needs to keep the engine happy. Apparently it just needs a little help staying out of the cabin.

Re: Fumes kills pilot
the little oil leak was gone by the time the mechanics got to it Or the fact they checked the engine at 30000+/- feet lower altitude may have been a factor... Also I found the mention of decades-earlier research on the effect of oil fumes interesting for one specific reason: jets use synthetic oil,...
