An engine cowling?
Several of them actually but here's the thing: they remained attached to the aircraft.

Okay fine... I don't know that for sure, but I'm speculating based on the date the craft was manufactured.

Re: The Eidelwiess affair…

Let's see if I can confuse things some more by throwing my $0.02 in... I think the motions of the plane seem dramatic not because of the amount of pitch change, but the rate. Initially the takeoff seems to go great... the plane accelerates down the runway, then rotates smoothly to what seems to be a...

Are you sure those ChickenPhotos are fake? They look exactly how I imagine fast food chains.
I think it may depend on the time of day.

Re: New video.

The displaced cowling seems to “relax” but then the other side lets loose, and both tear off as the plane slows. ...but the pilots were momentarily relieved when the "detached engine cowling asymmetry" lamp went out. Alternate explanation: CFM (do they still make the engines for...

Re: The Eidelwiess affair…

Poor pilot was probably coming from another type that had the ability to climb, and forgot that A340s don't do that.

Re: "Negative, Southwest, the pattern is full"

Tower really feared for their own lives, the plane was headed straight to the tower at about tower altitude. Yes, but who had the right of way? It reminds me of an old saying in boating, regarding right-of-way: "He was right, dead right, as he sped along, but he's just as dead as if he'd...

Re: Brill-yunt.

As I'm still Not_completely sure if bridges or ships are the ones at fault, I was thinking of equipping them both with nukes to destroy each other. But airbags could also work, yes. https://www.csun.edu/~hfmgt001/lighthouse.htm ...seems to be generally acknowledged as not_true, but funny nonetheless.

I've actually seen it (sitting, not in operation) a few times, though not recently.

Re: Railroad Thread

I guess my point is that if it’s soooooooo important to electrify transportation, why is there sooooo little talk and effort on US freight rail? Here are my guesses, in no particular order: 1) No money. 2) Long distances to be covered, which often are distantly distant from sources of electric_powe...

Re: Railroad Thread

Couple of things to mention. - To start to move form zero you have a quite a bit of static friction to overcome. It takes much more power / force to just barely start moving than it takes to keep moving and even accelerating at slow speed (as can be seen in these videos). - For traction you only ha...
