The reports of in flight explosions then a wing detaching and the report of survivors after the crash is most unusual.

Re: Always make sure your wheel nuts are secured

It appears the axle nut did not have a positive locking device installed. Without a positive locking device (a split pin or a lock bolt) the left hand wheel (looking forward at the landing gear, I/B wheel on the R/H gear, O/B wheel on the L/H gear) would tend to loosen the axle nut, the right hand a...

Re: Looking for my first aircraft...

The DO-28A-1 (Twin Engine development of the DO-27) was used for ice fog dispersal at ANC for many years.

As good an aircraft as the Donner aircraft may be, product support is lacking, operating costs are high and the unusual design makes them very poor choices for a first aircraft.

Many things could have prevented this accident, including: Better stall awareness and recovery training. A better understandi...

So, Flyboy, ITS, Dummy or anyone, are turboprop pilots an additional huge step down the totem pole in pay, experience and IQ from RJ pilots or do we simply need to go ahead and make turboprops totally glass and automated??? A classic was the JAL 747 that was blown off the taxi way at ANC 1n December 1975.

The repair was the largest repair (percentage of damage, not total cost) accomplished to date.

Re: Regional Airline Safety- Branch from Putter's comment

This is not just a regional airline issue. All pilot must start gaining experience somewhere. It's assumed that basic airmanship has been learned while the pilot earned his general ratings (PPL, CPL , MEL and instrument). It's possible to achieve these ratings in about 200 total flying hours. A pilo...

Re: The are always "good pilots"

The useful load of a typical Travelair is between 1500 and 1600 pounds. Five 200 pound American total 1000 pounds. Full main tanks (80 gallons X 6 ppg) = 480 pounds of fuel. If the load was only pax and fuel the aircraft should have been within weight and balance limits. The actual load may be outsi...

"Hot Dogging" is not dangerous unless! It's the "UNLESS" that kills people. A hot dogging pilot has a greater chance of an accident because there is less room for error when something unexpected happens. Pilots who risk their own necks doing stupid stunts is one issue, placing ot...

Re: Looking for my first aircraft...

In addition with a fabric airplane you have to have a hangar for it. Why is that? And, how does that compare to cheap composites? It isn't required "BUT" The costs to recover an un-hangared Super Cub will run 50% higher than the cost to cover a hangared aircraft. Environmental damage to t...

Aircraft like older twin Cessna's use tip tanks as mains. They are unrestricted. . The reason they are unrestricted is that they use boost pumps unlike the mod tanks which don't. Hey baby, nice tip tanks. Is it mandatory to exhaust the tip tanks before switching to mains? Tip tanks installed by STC (after market) typically feed fuel from the lowest point. If you are serious, hire a certified mechanic to accomplish a "Buyers Inspection". The cost should run between C$150 and C$250. Items to be checked: 1. Aircraft records including compliance records for AD's. You need the records for the engine, airframe and propeller from the last overhaul...
