Re: Quitter

Please enjoy reading reading the transcript of her resignation announcement. It seems clear she wrote it herself as no speechwriter would have used so many capital letters for Important Things or put quotes around "points of emphasis" or used the amazing construction of the final sentence...

Re: Air France jet missing

In the area after last contact until position of the wreck, they were most likely communicating via HF radio, and if surrounded by all the static of the CB's they might have been unable to hear anyone calling them or the ground station has been unable to hear them. Other aspects of HF radio wave pr...

Here is a diagram from the preliminary report - airfrance.jpg According to the report, the last radio contact was at 01.35.43 At 1 h 35 min 46 s, the controller asked them to maintain FL350 and to give their estimated time at the TASIL poi...

Re: Damn Crappy AirBus Yemenia Air Crash in Africa

ok, ok, i wasn't trying to be whiny or overly PC, just gently pointing out that the tone seemed a bit off. Actually, I think one important reason why we tend to engage with Western airline crashes more as a "tragedy" than just an "event" is the kind of media coverage they get. Th...

Re: Nationality Roll Call!

so that's a tie for the Brits and Yanks, with a total of 13 different nationalities. Well, as a typical Yank, I don't like even to think about parity with the Brits, so -- since I failed to vote -- here you go: American residing in USA speaking English. it's good, but no cigar - I already took the ...

Re: DC Metro Crash

Even though my friend, Giles, appears to want to challenge the competency of the driver but not offer any solutions, as I said earlier, I think there is a great discussion just waiting to happen re: avoiding complaceny when working in a highly automated system. This is an interesting point, and one...

It makes me sad, because if only flyboy had been born with a normal size penis he wouldn't have developed such a "small-dicked personality" and he might have become a fully functioning member of society :(

I'm sure that's true, Katie, and I'm sure a western passport doesn't hurt either, butcher or ditchdigger notwithstanding.

Nationality Roll Call!

As we all know, AD.info is an extremely diverse and multinational community. I often find myself wondering exactly how many countries we have people from here, so I thought I'd do a little roll call to see if we can answer this question. Where is everyone from? Put your country of residence and (bec...

Re: Air France jet missing

I read somewhere, after they had recovered a total of eight bodies, that so many were males, so many were females, but one was not identifiable. So I guess the lower part of the body got ripped away or got ripped by sharks. Obviously a lot of sharks are around in that part of the ocean. I am going ...

Same announcement suggested some of the bodies are identifiable from photographs. This would suggest a relatively low energy impact. Looking for some other online source for confirmation. Absolutely. When I heard that "bodies" had been found, I assumed they were talking about "body p...

Re: Air France jet missing

There is always a first time. (And why did Birgenair crash? wasn't it a blocked pitot tube? Only one? Not two as might be the case here?) Birgenair crashed because of dumb-ass pilots, primarily captain. The A330 has several pages full of instructions for unreliable airspeed, including procedures fo...
