"Dallas" cancels stuff and "shuts down" due to FORECAST thunderstorms...

Apparently DFW and DAL (or some of their airlinees) made proactive decisions to cease "normal operations" and keep lots of planes away from a FORECAST of potentially severe storms with lots of hail this week. I have ZERO Evan criticism, but will comment that this seems a LITTLE bit new - at least to...

Re: Are we comfortable with how wings work?

Seems to me that a measured pull up was in order.

By the way, I'd prefer to order it without lettuce.

Further Discussion: The dude seems a tad "unprofessional" and a "tad rough" to be an airline pilot... Conversely, nervous and a bit overwhelmed is nervous and a bit overwhelmed. Do we concur? Oh, and ironingly- the very next YouTube that popped up is discussing another case when the weather turned w...

Re: THERE HAS BEEN A NEAR-TOTAL NOTRE DAME DISASTER!!!!!

2017.04.17 I see lots of HEADLINES suggesting a cause, but then the articles say almost nothing. Massive PC media cover up? I read something of construction work so soldering torches or extension cord shorts or saw/drill friction with wood, many other potential sources of ignition... Maybe they want...

Re: THERE HAS BEEN A NEAR-TOTAL NOTRE DAME DISASTER!!!!!

It sounds like there were a lot of people in the cathedral when the fire started... maybe they have a witness? Saw a candle get knocked over or something like that? Ironingly, I recall visiting a "High Episcopal" church (they imitate Catholics a lot). The placed was packed and I couldn't see everyt...

I should ask Bobby if he knows what it's like to turn final with three hundred and sixty injected cubic inches of power, constant-speed prop and 2300 lbs and a 2500 ft airstrip? He owns and flies a J3, so... I think we will laugh at you at both ends of the spectrum. IMMATERIAL ....wimpy ass 75 hors...

Re: FAO: Gabriel; Why don't we just unplug MCAS?

But how about some sort of "endorsement" system where to fly the new damn-similar-to-the-old plane, you spend maybe 2 hours in a classroom and 1/2 hour in a sim, being instructed on what's different about this plane vs. the one you were previously rated on? "We" do that already, but thanks for the ...

Re: FAO: Gabriel; Why don't we just unplug MCAS?

Gabieee: So, again, the answer is I don't know if the MAX would be certifiable without the MCAS or if it is just a matter of having both airplanes feel more similar so you can have pilots flying both types alternatively and under the same type rating. Educated gossip in youtube and forums seem to p...

Re: FAO: Gabriel; Why don't we just unplug MCAS?

Sorry, black and white was not my intent. Cool story & appreciate the variations. My context was the 737-MinLav...and just how much nose over help it needs...does it really need the DCAS (Dive Causing Augmentation System) to ‘assure’ recovery, or is it ‘only’ “nice to have” and ‘only’ to make it FE...

THERE HAS BEEN A NEAR-TOTAL NOTRE DAME DISASTER!!!!!

Newsworthy, at least.

I suppose a bird could have whacked a smoke detector and made it give the indication that there absolutely is no fire whatsoever and that the heat should be switched to high.

3BSIEEE: Gabieee: This was a fairly serious post for the purpose of a little discussion. Given that MCAS has an arguably dark side, what would happen if it was removed? Does A the plane simply require more nose-over input in stall situation, or B does the stall behavior become nasty and somewhat un...

Domino Sugar is advertising this.

There is an explanation, much like airlines sometimes make regarding some much-discussed customer service incidents.

Maybe they should put that thing back into service... I bet it doesn't have a failure-prone system that causes it to try to dive into the ground unexpectedly!

This is more about hydrostatics than aerodynamics. But I digress... We understand that... It is indeed more about hydrostatics, but not_completely about hydrostatics. You are attempting to dismiss the higher-level question: (see footnote) Why does flapping a fin back and forth provide forward propu...

FAO: Gabriel; Why don't we just unplug MCAS?

Yes, I know, you get an aeroplanie that likes to help with relentless pull ups... Yes, I know, then it doesn't feel the same as other 737s (which is the major BUSINESS problem)...you can't play card that we are like Airbus where A320+/- are all the same. But so what...just redo all the 737-MinLav tr...
