Re: FAO Gabriel The Aeroengineer

Or, I can declare emergency and announce my intentions, and let them move all other planes away from my path. In this forum of slightly higher understanding, I want to confess that I am conflicted. I was definitely overly-bold in my confidence that I might be able to land a 'real' 747 simulator usi...

Re: FAO Gabriel The Aeroengineer

C'mon man...he was joking. Bobby inferred that the airport was operating to the East, so a damn amateur landing on 30, against the traffic seems a bit unadvisable. It's a controlled airport, they'll work him in. Hmmm...maybe vector him around a while until there's a traffic lull and he can get the ...

Re: FAO Gabriel The Aeroengineer

Of course, you do know things that I don't, so please shed some more light on the subject. Nah, you got your hands full with all that traffic at MIA, so I'll leave you be. C'mon man...he was joking. Re: F.A.O.: 3WE

For the record: I think that airline pilots forget to fly the plane or pull up relentlessly because they are trying to remember Evan's type-specific checklists, while, at the same time, repeatedly chanting, "I must not use broadly-applicable fundamentals". Of course, Gabriel remains my hero for hav...

Re: My Search for the Beauty of Kim Jong II

1. Bump. 2. I note some interesting and relevant ironing in the previous post, some years ago. 3. Should Monchavo try to figure out how to merge this with the thread in the political forum named "Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton"? 4. We certainly live in interesting times...and there may be somethin...

Yes, the aircraft is pictured there: https://www.jetphotos.com/photo/6864521

I'm thinking there's all kinds of nasty background clutter and tend to think the lighting is pretty messed up too...

But this was a long time ago, maybe before there was an effort to reject everything.

Re: CTE vs. flying on the airlines

For what it's worth, at Flyover we used to have: A football team . An airline . And within that airline, a :D Boeing :D 727 with a special football team livery*(see footnote). Yes, that plane was designated to carry the team. BUT, it belonged to the airline and carried regular passengers when the te...

Turbulence, Media, PR, Bean counters, Legal, ***PROCEDURES***

It seems the media is listing more and more turbulence/injury stories. Before I blame global warming, I think two other possible causes are more flights in the air and more media coverage. My question is, given the business world's obsession with image and media and legal ramifications and the cover...

Re: CTE vs. flying on the airlines

One thing I find amusing is how the article points out the endurance of the planes. Where the heck are they going to play (American) football that's 12 hours from Boston? The NFL has been doing an occasional game in London (to confuse fuhtbal, with football) to increase market interest and foster l...

Re: CTE vs. flying on the airlines

Interesting economics...A plane + A BACKUP plane... And ironingly, is it a problem of 'overbooking' where the "big" charter planes are not available?...Given that minor breakdowns seem to cancel flights, I guess there is not much slack in "the system". Also, while this is kind of communistic...maybe...

Two under-wing engines...size may vary.

1. Warning, I think this is probably mostly click bait and I did NOT take the quiz. BUT 2. I thought it curious as it relates to the comment, "all planes are so generic any more". https://www.zoo.com/quiz/97-people-cant-name-these-modern-planes-an-image-how-well-will-you-do?acct=act_1015344594191294...

Tail-dragger sign off.

I seem to recall that an ISGPOTM gave you your tail-dragger training and sign off.

And, you now are referred to as "Captain".

I think the only thing you are missing is to give a new young FO your epistle on the importance of hand flying and have him see the light...or perhaps you already have.

"Don't alter enough your jetphoto and we reject it. Alter it too much and we ban you."
Beautiful, succinct and to the point.

And even better than un tweet del presidente!

Indeed.

Monchie must have changed something so he has more time to address rejection appeals.

Don't alter anything or we will ban you, but contrast and histogram and dust spots are ok, and if the bright sun is casting shadows it's night.

Any other perversions I've missed?

Ok, I guess cheating is bad, but:

2.1- Do you like pretty pictures of airplanes?

It's those damn cheap crackerbox composite radomes that are the problem! Make 'em out of good old cast iron and there would never be a problem. Retirements and attrition hasn't solved this?

We're talking 15 years ago, and suddenly you have to screw over and undo pilot seniority? Seems just as shitty as United's customer service attitude... http://www.stltoday.com/news/traffic/along-for-the-ride/ruling-eliminates-seniority-protections-for-ex-twa-pilots-in-st/article_7fec1c74-5f1e-5cf1-a...

Osh Gosh

It would be interesting to analyze how many folks have been killed coming and going to Osh Gosh. Feels like two to four every year. Suddenly, a bunch of amateurs start taking on weather and distance and unfamiliar terrain and get 30+ (whatever) min away from the airport in something maintained well ...
