Re: From Aviation Typists Part xxxx

In related news, the alternator did died on a particular 172M in 1979 while making my official night flight.

VMC and runway lights that stayed on full time and instructors in the right seat are good things.

I hope you are similarly trilled.

Re: F.A.O.: Gabriel

Short summary of my experience in the 747-200 sim: Veni 630,000 lbs, vidi 630,000 lbs, vici 630,000 lbs. 1. Fixed ( we didn't want to forget what it weighed, right?) 2. While we appreciate the not-so-Gabriellian brevity, I believe some details on parking brake usage are lacking. 3. You alluded, the...

Re: Seattle Q-400

Maybe the cockpit door is locked when unattended and “we” require two people present when it isn’t.

BUT how do you keep one person from grabbing some keys?

Re: Seattle Q-400

I’m still curious how the ATC stuff unfolded. I guess regardless of when he called them, there’s no way to stop him short of fighter jets. To dangerous and not enough time to block him with a snow plow.

Seattle Q-400

Just ass uming the general public will want and regulators will have some more procedures. Will also be interesting to see if the dude was an actual Q-400 pilot or how he knew to start the thing. Also, from my limited understanding- could he easily get ATC clearance? ATC would expect a flight plan f...

Re: Second-Rate Regional Pilots

No, I survived and posted about the experience on an aviation safety forum (but in off topic, since it was actually folks in ground-based vehicles maneuvering for parking places with some minor course conflicts, that were resolved using both FAR's and common, fundamental, basic rules.) Trivia note: ...

Evan and Gabe may disagree- but for an aircraft carrier ...I would be very ok with 3000 PSI straight to the brake pads! Well... when trying to land an aircraft with a 195-foot wingspan on a deck with ~120' clearance from the runway centerline to the superstructure, directional control could be impo...

Yes, we are aware of this incidence of it being Flyinto Regional Airport instead of Flyover International Airport.

Second-Rate Regional Pilots

While maneuvering on a left base to land on runway 27R at the local Casey's in Jonesboro AR in the Vandelay Fertilizer Silverado- I had visual contact with an Air Choice One crew car on a right base to 27L. The holier than thou-puppy mill pilots seemed insistent on staying to the left of course, whi...

As I state there ... Lined up, configured, stabilized, no crosswind and I suggest this power setting. BUT NO external guidance. I acknowledge that the slight corrections to keep it on course and the flare may be a 750,000 lb challenge, but your 4 min of glory is a bit unrealistic with respect to the...

F.A.O.: Gabriel

I think we are due a flight report. Did we virtually died? Did we have problems with 0.75 million pound phugoids? The 4-lever throttle quadrant that is a "handful"? Were we able to taxi to a gate and set the parking gate without a butt chewing from a stereotypical virtual New Yark controller?

Re: MEX: Aeroméxico flight AM2431

As noted by Not_Karl, this is the second recent incident of pilots using V-3bs to abort, run off the end, break the airplane but not_kill anyone.

I glad to see that pilots are starting to use V-3bs and that it is saving lives.

Next up: phugoid training for all.

Veered off -and overran- runway . N_K's professional, expert, credential certified, insider theory: RTO after a couple of Vs, but before 3V BS , with antiskid-less autobraking pumping 3000PSI to the brakes. There, I'm confident I solved it. But, of course, meteorite, missile, cowboyism, CIA and/or ...

Re: MEX: Aeroméxico flight AM2431

1. So, we have crashed a Regional E-170.

2. We do not crash RJ's very often.

3. And apparently we didn't kill anyone (also consistent with the amazing RJ record).

4. I blame Embraer.

Tomfoolery aside- comments 2 and 3 (and 1) are mostly serious.

Re: How does one copy a CD...

Can the unit in your car play MP3s (on a CD)? If so I'd suggest ripping said CD to MP3 files, then do the same with a few of its friends, then burn the MP3s onto a data disc and use that in the car. MP3's...a technical loss in fidelity that the ear cannot hear...still, I feel cheated. 7? Years ago-...
