Re: Total Livery ailure

Probably its retirement is more related to the fact that it was originally a test airplane, hence very early model, surely quite heavier than later models, and hence with useful load (since the max gross weight is the same) and hence with less range for a given payload, less payload for a given ran...

Re: Total Livery ailure

The prototype 777-200, call sign B-HNL, rolled off the production line in 1994, eventually entering commercial service for Hong Kong's Cathay Pacific airline in 2000. Over the years it's clocked up 20,519 flights for Cathay. That's a whopping 49,687 hours of flying time. Meh, nothing impressive the...

I kinda feel for the good Uncle Doctor...He should have just bought this. [A319]
Screw that...how about this:

(Our would this type be better suited for Garrison?)

Re: Boeing Deception: 777X Wing Actually Elongated 787 Wing

OK, I buy the argument that increasing the aspect ratio can decrease the induced drag. But what about the tip vortices? If a wing is simply stretched but has the same form and lifting profile at the tip, it’s going to generate much the same vortices at the tip The claim that winglet orientation is ...

Re: Boeing Deception: 777X Wing Actually Elongated 787 Wing

I thought winglets- to some extent- "dammed up" air that would otherwise spill over the side of the wing and generate wasted energy in vortexes. That is actually a fairly correct description....Now, did you realize that all your and my description works the same if the wiglet is horizontal?... Yes,...

Re: Boeing Deception: 777X Wing Actually Elongated 787 Wing

A horizontal wiglet is more efficient than a vertical one. A distinguished aviation typist by the name of Garrison or something argued that orientation of the winglet doesn't actually matter, so long as its there. Of course, his degree is not in any kind of engineering... For the sake of reduction ...

I thought winglets- to some extent- "dammed up" air that would otherwise spill over the side of the wing and generate wasted energy in vortexes. That is actually a fairly correct description. The winglets try to be a barrier, but end up being an inconvenience, for the air in the high-pressure lower...

Re: Boeing Deception: 777X Wing Actually Elongated 787 Wing

A horizontal wiglet is more efficient than a vertical one. Wiglets are used where you want to improve an existing "old" wing or when you want to keep the wingspan down to a max. Boeing found a different way to keep the wingspan down (on the ground) and have a wing as long as they wanted at the same ...

It is designed to be perfectly flyable and controllable with asymmetric wing folding (for example, if one tip folds midair)

How does that Einstein quote go, about the universe and human stupidity both being infinite?
He was not so sure about the infiniteness of one of them.

And please don't land on the taxiway.
If I everybody can walk away from the sim and it can be re-used without further maintenance, it is a perfect landing by definition. Runway, taxiway, highway or fairway.

I was picturing something more like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6epe9cFQ_9c&t=77s
This one would be too much fun.
It reminds me of my first landing in the Tomahawk. The yoke all over the place and the sweat.
The person in the right seat was quite different, though.

It is an interesting idea, I first thought you were crazy but then you explained it and it made sense. I mean, I have no idea if you are correct or not. But I liked your reasoning which involved explaining why you thought that and not showing off credentials to "prove" that you are right (as if cre...

2. I looked at it several times- and then the guy starts saying "oh crap" I can't see or hear anything particularly wrong (however see below). I think that the plane is deviating to the left of the runway, hence the "oh crap". Not sure though. 3. Since we live for totally unsubstantiated parlour ta...
