Re: The Shootdown of Korean Air Lines Flight 007
I think that the Intelligence report of page 47 of the Report is cogent and compelling Ahh, sorry, no. Not unless we have a different understanding of the words "cogent" and "compelling". - At a time prior to any idea that KAL 007 was shot down, An idea that was pretty clear fro...

Re: The Shootdown of Korean Air Lines Flight 007
Bert I read your supposedly "CIA" study - and I have found it hilarious. More importantly, how can airborne pilots tell the nationality of the passengers of the airliner? Indeed, what is the percentage chance that an airliner operating a flight between the US and Korea would carry at least...

Shorrick Mk 2, do not be offended about the luggage. This is a way I have as a layman to find out things that experts know. To the meat of what you are getting at - "You mean they sent resources to the suspected location of a plane crash? I'd say that is hardly shocking to begin with." As...

Re: The Shootdown of Korean Air Lines Flight 007
I can see no other interpretation from the transcripts except that within 1/2 hour of the shootdown, despite the Soviet denial, the Soviets sent helicopters, KGB patrol boats, and civilian trawlers that were in the vicinity to 3 1/2 X4 1/2 mile Moneron Island, the last point that they had located K...

Time for more alpine goodness The landmark we visited this time were the Matterhorn mountain (those of you who know Toblerone chocolate should be familiar with the shape - that's where it originates). More views of the area on the Zermatt ski resort website . After buzzing it we landed at Saanen (LS...

Re: Near total disaster at LAX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
At our local corn field (LSGG) the grass runway is only 250 odd meters to the side of the concrete runway. Whenever we operate in the CTR we have the transponder on standby (or off if doing touch-and-go practice) and tower provides traffic advisory and separation advise. Interestingly enough on the...

If it were a dragon, it could only be the tiny one in the Mulan cartoon '
It is a Tecnam P2002JF, a diminutive two seater (that actually cruises at 110kts and offers better views than a say PA28 while burning a fraction of the (auto) gasoline)

Considering it's Friday, the end of a long and gruelling week, i thought I might share with you all some eye-candy from the latest flight I did around the Alps. The pictures are not the best there are - I only noticed my camera was out of battery when I was sat down in the plane, so I used the mobil...

Re: Europe Advice
Taxes are paid to the local airports / airport operators, and are a fixed amount per pax. If you buy a very cheap ticket, it may very well be that the airport taxes are actually more expensive than the "travelling" part.

Actually may even have been a Thomas Cook flight. And it was from Newcastle. Newcastle to Lyon Via Bristol for an extra pick-up. We were asked to move to the back of the plane I think a 757. I can't remember the exact reason, something to do with baggage had more weight in ski/snowboards bags than ...

Re: Local Flight Club got two new planes to rent...
Where is the joy of flying ? That thing is like being put into a plastic bubble with a bunch of buttons to push . We've got a couple of these at my club. It's indeed much like being in a bubble - at least for me, having trained and soloed in a AS-02 with a teardrop(ish) canopy. Visibility over he n...
