Hmm. Which aircraft are they referring to here? Can't think of any...Aircraft types currently fulfilling the military tactical transport role in the world’s air forces are becoming obsolete either because of old age or because of difficult supportability.

The HLT series have been around for a long time. The blurb describes them well enough.

Re: Bravo Zulu Boeing
As well as the wings being flown off the P-3... Lockheed Martin is building new ones like crazy. Are these original Lockheed wings? IIRC, some US P-3s had Canadian wings with metallurgical issues (part of the Aurora sales offsets to the CF). Yes. Lockheed Is manufacturing the wings at the Marietta,...

Re: Bravo Zulu Boeing
I don't think the P-8 will be used only for ASW, just like the P-3 wasn't (and isn't). P-3 really hasn't hunted subs for quite some time now. Last time I checked there Iraq doesn't have subs, especially in the middle of the country. Spent some wonderful time in country(sic) P-3's spend most of thie...

Re: AirBus crackerbox bombs Texas
TFOA happens. Its part of aviation. The only way it will stop, is the same way aircraft mishaps will cease to happen, will be to STOP flying. Hell the Navy used to have a program just for TFOA. Reports that needed filed, trend analysis, etc. They did away with it because TFOA was deemed nothing spec...

Hi-Tique Fasteners...
Any one here familiar with them? Never heard of them(might because I'm used to working on old ass aircraft designed in the 50's) till I went through Hi-Tique Cert today at work. Supposedly they are better than Hi-Loks. Just curious to see what others think.

Re: The Crap Hits the Fan
Flyboy & RCL, sorry to hear it. Went through it more than a year ago. With two small kids and a mortgage it wasn't a fun summer. Than after 3 months I landed a job with more than twice the salary of the previous one, so sometime it can work out for the better in the long run. I hope it will be ...

Re: South Carolina, here we come
I have no idea really , but it looks like 3800 jobs is a tad too much just for one line of final assembly. You don't... Lockheed has around 3,000 on the F-22 line, and will be looking for the same number as the F-35 line comes on line... and both of those aircraft are a tad smaller than a 787... Ar...

Re: Even cheaper composites on the way, or the new competition?
What aircraft have steel struts? Aren't the shock absorber struts made of steel? (you know, in the hydro-pneumatic shock absorbers, like in "the ground spoilers are automaticaly extended when strut compression is detected in both main landing gears") I think yes, but depends on the aircra...

Re: Even cheaper composites on the way, or the new competition?
More remarkable than the cheap composites itself is what they will replace with it: COMAC is turning to new, lightweight carbon composites in place of steel for the plane's construction Are they going to make the landing gear struts of carbon composites or what? What aircraft have steel struts?
