Oh and: Ottawa has a tonne of these.I have often eyed the dedicated roadways that some public transport can use to get from point to point. I've seen them in Canada and Southern California, I am sure there's one in the OC.

Whole series of them.I'm trying to understand this one. You have a bus stop designed to kill passengers in double deck buses?

American units are not the same as Imperial units; quite a few of the latter are different; gallons for example.

According to something I saw the other day in Chinese internet slang "748" means roughly "go to hell". If that's actually true, Boeing's been selling into quite a headwind...

Re: 757 troubles. the latest news
The other one would be to resurrect the 757. Maybe stretch the fuselage a bit, improve the wings, the systems and the cockpit (an the interior) to make it part of the 787 / 777-X "family". And of course put new engines that are 20% more fuel efficient than those in the original 757, and enter the w...

So, a ripped fuselage... guess that means a six-pack ABS. Didn't think E190s had body gear that size though.

Ottawa bus wreck
Double-decker bus ingests roof of bus stop. They did died. :-( Summary link: https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/ottawa/ottawa-bus-crash-westboro-station-what-we-know-1.4976342 Apparently the driver was arrested, but then released, without any explanation other than a caution against jumping to conclusio...

Re: Latest From Aviation Typists
***there are things computers are useful for*** What do you think about them tracking speed and location on a runway and perhaps an inertial acceleration for double-check purposes and checking to see if the takeoffs appear to be on-track? As it so happens, I already have an answer for that: https:/...

Re: Latest From Aviation Typists
I thought about this for a while before shooting off my mouth further (nearly a month!) but now I'll do so: The certification issues seem like a red herring, inasmuch as either some of those aircraft shouldn't be certified, or there should be two certification categories ("pretend light twins" and "...

Re: Lion Air Flight 610
Given that it was posted the same day as the preliminary report, it probably predates the preliminary report, as in it was written a day or two earlier so the author hadn't seen the latter yet. The mistakes though... well, maybe a CNN editor put them in. Or maybe not. This MCAS stuff is all very wel...

Re: Lion Air Flight 610
I am starting to suspect that there may have been something more to this, Yes, I think there's going to be at least one thing that hasn't come out yet. None of the air data/AoA stuff really explains the crash profile, which features more or less level flight followed by a fairly sudden and sharp fa...

Re: autopilot 1, crew 0
Well, one of the other mistakes the crew made (which I didn't mention since I was posting specifically about weaknesses in the autopilot) is that they engaged the autopilot (that is, connected it to the flight director) without first cross-checking what the flight director was directing and what the...

autopilot 1, crew 0
http://avherald.com/h?article=4c003f22 Summary: Q400 crew engages autopilot after takeoff, autopilot decides it wants to go home as fast as possible. Cause: wrong autopilot modes selected, plus various missed opportunities for the crew to notice the mistake. So it seems the Dash-8 autopilot has an a...

Re: Lion Air Flight 610
One of the things that's come out is that while an ordinary trim runaway is continuous, this thing produces a runaway where it moves a bit and stops, and then a bit later it moves a bit more and stops, and over and over but never for very long or very much at once. Real easy to not notice it happeni...

Re: F.A.O.: Gabriel, The Hell Better Aeroengineer
It is tumbling, just in slow motion. That the axis of the tumble is close to vertical is a coincidence. (Or maybe not, it probably appealed to the director so we see this part and not others.) If you spin an object on two different axes, this ends up being equivalent to a single resultant spin on so...

Re: Lightning detection for turbulence/storm avoidance.
Lightning data is collected in realtime by satellite nowadays. Getting a feed in the cockpit is probably more of an administrative and procedural than technical issue. Whether it'd be useful is an open question; I can see that it might (e.g. help one be suspicious of areas that turn out to contain h...

It annoys me that Airbus has rushed to erase Bombardier's name from the project, especially since it only happened because of stupid government tricks.
