Re: insanity of ticket pricing
A while years ago NW asked EUR 6,000 for Amsterdam-Memphis-Amsterdam in C. Adding a German airport like FRA-AMS-MEM-AMS-FRA was EUR 2,200. Airlines invent ways to cream off yield, customer find ways around it. Airlines find ways to block customers finding their way around that and customers come up ...

Re: Polish president's plane crashes in Russia
It is hard to imagine a pilot with any common sense making a forth approach to a non-ILS runway, but it's not at all hard to imagine some big cheese in the back overruling common sense and ordering him to do so. Exactly. I also wonder if fuel could have been an issue, if it is true that the control...

Re: Polish president's plane crashes in Russia
From Wikipedia Article Pilot ignoring advice from air traffic control Reuters claimed that the pilot of the jet had 'ignored advice.' A mission control operator spoke anonymously to the news organisation, saying "The pilot was advised to fly to Moscow or Minsk because of heavy fog, but he still...

Re: Polish president's plane crashes in Russia
Amazingly, Wikipedia alrready has a long article on the crash. I have no idea of the accuracy of the following quote from there, but if true, it would be interesting to see the context of the incident: In 2008, the pilot of Kaczyński's plane was threatened with dismissal when he refused to land the...

Blizzard über New York.

Re: Another computer question ...
what browser? with IE you can right click on the wmv link and select save (as). Yes, IE. But there is no link on this site, it's an embedded player. I could figure out the URL of the video file, but now I just can't download it ... :-( If anybody cares, the URL is http://artestras.wmod.rd.llnw.net/...

Another computer question ...
Ok, sounds easy, but ... I'd like to download and save a video from an internet site. It exists as http://www.something.com/.../so_and_so.wmv If I enter this as a URL in the browser window it doesn't ask me if I'd like to download/save the file but starts immediately playing in my Windows Media Play...

Personally I don't have any tasks scheduled as the maintenance is completely done by the provider. It's quite possible that they do maintenance work during the middle european night. I could notice that over here at the moment the repsonse time isn't as good as well. Let's watch it for another few d...

This site is run on a virtual server, means there are several web sites together on one single physical machine. Depending on the overall traffic and load on all web sites together, the performance and response time can decrease. Accessing from OZ is certainly not an advantage there. However, this u...

Anywhere in Europe it always has been like that: 1. Checkin: Present Passport if country of destination requires a prevoiusly issued visa --> Airline makes sure that immigration will be granted, otherwise they have to take you back at their own expense. 2. Passport Control: Authorities make sure tha...

Re: Impressions from Sibiria
Novosibirsk was a good guess, I took those pics in Omsk, not far from there. (At least in Sibirian measures categories that is ...) Air condition is quite common as in summer temperatures can exceed 40C (110F). I'll post some of the nicer sights later. Oh, and very important: Moscow Domodedovo airpo...
