Re: CF-18 Hornet Crashes during Airshow practice, dramatic pics

Those popping sounds can be heard in the video, the first is the canopy blown off the second is the ejection seat rockets firing... I don´t know whether this plane has computer assisted FBW, but if so it must have been turned off to allow for the manoeuver and the pilot simply overdid it.

Re: Polish president's plane crashes in Russia

German YAHOO has it that the passengers on board have been aware of the impending crash during the last seconds of the flight. This info is said to have leaked from the investigation board, after reviewing the CVR. Horrifying thought... RIP.

What does the W stand for, though? :?

Not knowing about the battery type in question, both excessive cold and heat diminuish the battery life. I guess the certified duration includes all probable temperatures. So from -4° C to like 30°C (permanent) the lifespan should be guaranteed. Of course the box can stand much higher temperatures o...

Re: Another Cheap Composite Failure

Hm. RIP whatever I thought of him as a musician. Death is not something to joke about, IMHO. Unless (forum-specific) it is aviation related, like John Denver e.g., but even in this case I´d refrain from it. My $0.02, of course. BTW ITS, I figure the "composites" joke has become a habit her...

Re: Air France jet missing

They should check wether the ISIS reset was required on that plane, and if so, wether it was done as required by maintenance. I suppose that a loss of this system paired with the loss of the Air Data Inertial Reference System during extreme meteorological conditions can easily bring the plane out of...

Already have it: ADIRU: Air Data [and] Inertial Reference Unit http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Air_Data_Inertial_Reference_Unit Diese geben Informationen zu Geschwindigkeit, Höhe und Fluglage an das EFCS weiter.

(...) A normal check a pilot has to perform any 10 seconds (in approach, esp IMC) is check of - speed and speed trend - altitude (radio if possible) - attitude - N1/EPR - A/P mode That is why they get paid so much. Re: THY Turkish 737-800 crash lands at Amsterdam

I can´t see everything, but it definitely looks like this one was not spinning during impact, while the other one was spinning. Hm. Given the eyewitness accounts about "the engines spooling up" that would indicate the pilots counteracted a #1 flameout by applying thrust to #2. Lets see wha...
