Re: Airdisaster.info is closing
I don't show up much these days, but I wanted to give my appreciation to Monchavo for keeping this place running so long. I've learned a lot from you all and enjoyed my membership here, though not that frequently in recent times.

Re: Aeroplanie crash in my area
I'll be surprised if any of the avionics data survived. I saw one crash photo that shows evidence of fire and also read one news report that said the pilot was burned beyond recognition. He was apparently identified by dental records.

Re: Aeroplanie crash in my area
Could be. Or could be that he just lost control in IMC. Or could be that he just busted minimums by too much. Or could have been a mechanical failure. Or could be that the plane was hit by a meteorite. Too little information as to the chain of events that led to the crash. I am aware. I have not tr...

Re: Aeroplanie crash in my area
An interesting tidbit I read that may or may not be true is that he had a new avionics package installed while in Florida. Could it be that a lack of familiarity with the new avionics resulted in his untimely death? Unless he was unfamiliar with the altimeter, airspeed indicator and attitude indica...

Re: Aeroplanie crash in my area
So it appears the location of the crash is actually closer to the airport than was originally reported. The actual crash location is only about 1.5 mile from the approach end of runway 18. The ground elevation is pretty much the same at the crash site as it is at the airport. An interesting tidbit I...

Re: Aeroplanie crash in my area
Additional data for arm chair admonishment: https://aeronav.faa.gov/d-tpp/2009/00229R18.PDF Your links hint of some “high” terrain. I struggle to believe there is significant “terrain” in the heart of the corn/soy belt...but field level is 400 something, and approach minimums near 1000 ft, and fina...

Re: Aeroplanie crash in my area
My drive to and from work takes me to the south of KLWV. I looked to the north from the highway this morning and it does appear the terrain to the north of the airport is higher than the surrounding area.

Re: Aeroplanie crash in my area
I don't recall any storms that night. It was pretty much still, humid and foggy as all git out. He was flying in the soup and would have busted minimums most likely if he'd made it to land.

I've always seen the area as pretty much flat as a pancake. I need to check out that crash area and see if there's something I wasn't aware of.

Aeroplanie crash in my area
Had a presumably good Cirrus fly right into the ground a few miles from my house the night before last. A judge from a neighbouring county in Indiana was heading to land in LIFR conditions at an Illinois airport about 10 nm from my abode. I checked the Flightware page and the track log shows my litt...

Re: MSFS is back
Another complaint I've heard about it from people who fly on VATSIM, the taxiways are all just randomly labeled and do not correspond at all to real life taxiway designators. That's gonna make it tough for VATSIM controllers to give FS 2020 pilots taxi instructions since the controllers rely on actu...

Flight Safety Detectives podcast
Wondering if any of you have listened to the Flight Safety Detectives podcast by a couple of former NTSB guys. I just started listening to it on my drive to and from work. What I've heard so far has been pretty interesting. Just finished listening to the Valujet episode. http://www.flightsafetydetec...

Interesting discussion. I didn't even remember this crash when I watched the video. Seems like, as most crashes, there were many little things that combined to make one big thing.

Sadly, no thoughts were discovered upon scanning my cranium. The good news is they didn't learn any of my secret plans to rule the world.

I do remember seeing the weight and CG issues raised before...I just don't recall where. It's an interesting topic and I'd love to know if they did play a significant role in what happened. I'll try to find where I previously heard that.
