Re: Dash 8 down in Kathmandu

What an incredible mess that entire approach was. The captain may have been there physically, but mentally he was way gone long before the crash. And the FO the same, although in a very different way and for very different reasons. Concur. I think she was completely overwhelmed by the situation and...

Re: Dash 8 down in Kathmandu

Just from what we already knew, this whole thing seemed to be many failures combined. I'll be interested to hear what the final report says.

Re: Iran: ATR 72-500 down

On Mar 11th 2018 Iran's AIB released their preliminary report in Persian reporting that according to FDR and CVR the aircraft had been handed over to Yasuj Tower, the autopilot was set to 15,000 feet. Descending through 15,600 feet the crew activated the anti-ice systems. The aircraft levelled off a...

Saw another quote that the plane was supposed to land from the south, but instead chose to land from the opposite direction.

Re: An-148 down

One wonders what might have happened if the airspeed disagreement warning (assuming it's on a video screen or something and thus changeable) had "CHK PITOT HEAT" appended to it. Concur. Also, in the realm of 'outsider advice' why in the hell is there even an off switch? I guess it's a good idea on ...

Re: CFIT & Technology. 2/2015

That crash was 20 years ago, so I'm not really sure what moving map technology was available at the time. Today, however, there's no excuse for a lack of such things in commercial transport aircraft.

Re: Ban All Smart Phones!!!!!

This idiot would have found a different way to crash if he wasn't taking selfies (I hate that term). As I've heard so many times, you just can't fix stupid. Just a shame he had to take someone with him.

Re: Back in the saddle

My yoke, pedals and throttle quad are all in my man cave. My wife rarely ventures in there and with good reason, it's a mess. I got really burned out on FS for a while, but I'm really getting back into it now. I bought ActiveSky Next for FSX and it handles the weather nicely. I still use FS9 as well...

Back in the saddle

Anyone else here still flight simming? I just started getting back into it recently and am finally learning how to fly the PMDG 737 I bought for FS9 so many years ago.

LOL I saw that too. I used to have one of those crazy email address/logins too, but couldn't tell you now what it was. Back in the day, Compuserve was awesome for a teenager with no life, a 300 baud modem and a Radio Shack Color Computer 2. :D

No idea, really, but I thought it was a signal that they had reached, or were within a certain number of feet from reaching their dialed in altitude.

Holy crap! You mean I'm not supposed to do that? Maybe it's ok if I'm on duty, just not when I'm off duty ;) Seriously, if this actually happened, they need some jail time for aggravated assault. I'm sick to death of idiots making my job harder by doing stupid stuff and making the public think we're...
