Re: Video of May 2009 Harrier crash Kandahar

So what happened there? It seemed to be a good airplane til landing. And the fact that the equipment wasn't waiting would seem to indicate that nobody was expecting trouble.

Re: If you dont give us 31R we will declare emergency.

Read again Giles, saying you're going to declare changes nothing, until you actually do. Maybe there in the great white north, but in the US, 7110.65T specifies: 10-1-1. EMERGENCY DETERMINATIONS a. An emergency can be either a Distress or an Urgency condition as defined in the “Pilot/Controller Glo...

Re: Polish president's plane crashes in Russia

When I heard about the fog and the 3 go-arounds before it was my instant thought who it was to force the landing in those unsuitable conditions. Of course you never know but I find it hard to believe it was the pilot ... Was the aircraft equipped with a CVR? It is hard to imagine a pilot with any c...

Re: Total Crane Disaster!

Briefly... The great big one is a "dragline". It has a bucket that's suspended from cables, open at the end, with a second cable that's 'drags' that bucket towards the machine. When loaded, the bucket is raised, the machine swings around, and the 'drag' cable is payed out, allowing the buc...

Yes, I do believe that you endangered yourself, your children and other children in a indirect way. If another equation had come into the environment (persons entering the area, machinery malfunction etc) and things had gone pear shaped. You, I believe by your actions, would have been the main caus...

.......I'm thinking that a 'Control Tower' is a place of work.....therefore not a place for children to 'play' TDU Thunder, I've had my children, and other kids, occasionally sit in the operator's seat and take a few bucketfuls of dirt, under my direct supervision, at low throttle settings and well...

Re: Kindergarten Controllers

There are also rules about sterile cockpits, no idle talk that is not essential to the task at hand at certain portions of a flight, and a segment of the flight where this is the case is indeed when talking to the tower. Isn't it the case that the tower must also be sterile when dealing with arrivi...

If so, how?

If not, then what makes this worthy of the incredible attention it's getting?

Re: Kindergarten Controllers

So if can sum up everyone's opinions on the matter, it appears that the new Gold standard in aviation professionalism and safety is: "As long as nobody gets hurt, what's the big deal?" I think to anybody that understands the nuts and bolts of an airport tower operation, from a safety stan...

Re: ASDE-X problems at Boston Logan

No, I didn't change the question, I just added another question because the false alert depicted in the video looked like "real" enough information to me. While the first thing I thought of was the potential for a controller to shut somebody down while on takeoff, leading to a messy overru...

I'm impressed! It even has the hydraulic hoses to the backhoe.

I haven't spent much time on one of those recently, but if I'd kept a log book it'd probably show between 10 and 15 thousand hours on those machines.

Thanks. :D
