Re: FAO: Shadey.

Ticket out of town.

I have seen Billy Joel and Bob Segar at the AA Center.

But--right now I have to say my favorite live band is BNL.

Re: Tu154M Explosion in Surgut, auton. distr. of Khantia-Mansia

A small point of detail. The accident aircraft was a TU-154B-2, not a TU-154M. I understand the recent Russian order to ground Russian TU-154s applies just to the few B airframes remaining active, and not to the more common and much upgraded M version. Imagree with you David. This is the aviation s...

Happy New Year

This year I plan to get my act together and have my bags packed prior to the day I am leaving, my laundry at the cleaners immediately, my truck fueled before leaving for the airport, to check in for trips before walking out to board the crew bus.

Overall this should be an exciting year.

Re: Qantas A380 emergency landing in SIN

When control of #1 engine was lost it reverted to "degraded" mode, probably the equivalent of "Flight Idle" on a lot of aircraft. In response, #4 engine was also commanded to degraded mode to maintain symmetry. Degraded mode is probably adequate to maintain flight, even a rate o...

Re: A Major Event

What were the variables that came together to make this possible?
Light load?
Winds?
Temp?
There were many variables, but one certainty was superior airmanship.
Brilliant!

Here are a few others:
Atlantic crossing

Pacific crossing

Around the world

I am about to do all three this week.

Re: Qantas A380 emergency landing in SIN

Pilots kill whole plane loads of people...... I would never look at it that way. They are terrible accidents that pilots die in also. Your comment about a mechanic killing two pilot friends made me think it was premeditated or something. And then I find out the whole story, the mechanic also died, ...

Re: 787 troubles, the latest news..

I know these are just snapshots but the damage appears to be much less severe than I imagined from the initial reports (with the understanding the system losses and fire in the overall scheme of things were severe enough).

Re: Qantas A380 emergency landing in SIN

To call yourself an Aeronautical Engineer or any engineer for that matter, you must have a accredited degree in a engineering discipline, passed the "Professional Engineer" exam, and worked five documented years as an Engineer. Wrong. Mechanics are referred to as "Engineers" eve...

Re: "Almost airworthy" branch thread.

To answer your question (although I didn't read the whole thing) it all depends on the damage, conditions, repair, pilot . What I am going to tell you was illegal but when I was younger working at the airport a Dude ground looped a Cessna 195 and got a wingtip into the ground resulting in spar damag...

So, at the very very best, you're the same kind of windbag I am, right? No, no, no, please. You are such a much better windbag than me. On the other hand, I am such a much better AERONAUTICAL ENGINEER than you. I highly doubt it . To call yourself an Aeronautical Engineer or any engineer for that m...

A little off topic , but the other day I was a passenger and I had over 80 movies to choose, around 1000 songs, a seat that reclined and moved in every direction along with a massage motor, remote control, lights, headset, etc.. The point is at one time looking out the window was entertainment enou...

Re: Qantas A380 emergency landing in SIN

Supposedly there is an historical precedent for replacing an entire wing in-situ. Company folklore has it that Boeing replaced a wing on a 707 in Florida. This airplane really should be repairable on site though. The airplane can be supported with standard jacks while the wing is opened up. One lik...
