Re: Flight report Feb 2019

You don't get it. That girl is nowhere close to 6' 4". Can you see how her femur fits between the backs of the seats? Mine doesn't, whether I put my ass on the seat or on my back doesn't make a difference. This should solve most of your problems, especially since you now have some 747 sim time. htt...

Its Done https://www.cnbc.com/2019/02/14/airbus-a380-superjumbo-the-rise-and-fall.html Frankly, I thought it was done when FedEx canceled their order. When an airplane that large can't be efficiently operated even as a freighter, one get serious doubts if there is an economic case for it at all.

Re: Air Canada 777 tail strike

Every pilot always has a 1st landing in every new type they fly. And it never ends like this one did (i.e. in a good but not perfect landing).
Never?

Re: 757 troubles. the latest news

I am wondering whether Boeing is considering (or considered and discarded, and why) other options. One would be to make what would be the 747 SP version of the 787. By reducing the pax and cargo capacity (length), and fuel and range, to something perhaps a bit better than a 757, they can reduce a l...

Re: Radio Protocol

The stranding incident admittedly sucks...However, that thread is quite the hot stinking mess of divergent opinion. Maybe there's some agreement that there should be physical punishment. I'm particularly fond of the notion that each airline that happens to be a member of an alliance should not only...

Re: Radio Protocol

I did not count the actual occurrences, but I was surprised at 90 degree turns and altitude assignments being given and the acknowledgement was just the flight number... That's not as surprising as an alleged former paramedic apparently not being aware that airport fire units don't just do aircraft...

Re: Skylease 747F Landing Overrun Halifax

I find it disconcerting that one of the most important aspects of this story is being grossly underreported: the fact that a number of lobsters apparently are going to be able to celebrate one more Christmas than they otherwise would have. This was also a somewhat underreported aspect of the slight...

Re: Yahoo Clickbait Aviation Spam

Airplanes have quirks and pilots have quirks. Not only pilots can tell certain airplanes from others of the same model without looking at the N-number, but if planes where self-aware (or if someone looked at their QAR) they could also tell certain pilots from others of the same "batch". These quirk...

Re: Braking news from California

It may have. When you said that Aviation wasn't a great example to play the "profit over safety" card, he might have found out that Dad works for the cable company, Wal Mart, or Ticket Master or something like that. Or maybe he simply paused and thought about it. Evidently, the "nomorekitten" polic...

Re: Latest From Aviation Typists

Well, you are REQUIRED by 14 CFR to land at the nearest (in time) suitable airport (unless you can justify that that was not the safest move) and AFAIK (correct me if I am wrong) company procedures typically require their pilots to declare emergency with ATC. Thank you for that clarification, Gabri...

Re: Latest From Aviation Typists

It was interesting to hear Flyboy state how he was a very precise example of what the editorial described. 150 hours of twin piston time that was not super applicable to the CRJ which was where hour 151 (roughly) occurred. Indeed the whole paradigm is different. On a transport-category twin, an eng...

Re: Flight Report (and Flyboy Appreciation Moment)

Would Doctor Flyboy care to share stories or a guestimate of how often he gets to be met by EMS? Not near as much as you'd think, especially being based in Florida the last few years. I'd say in my whole career (almost 13 years) I've had fewer than 10 EMS encounters while operating a flight with pr...

What "light" can come on at landing, and require a significant replacement part, hours of installation and is serious enough that you can't say what it is?
The Fetzer valve indication is but one example.
