Hello again

First, apologies for my long absence from this site. Sometimes other activities take up your time and attention. This has been the case for me. I have been concentrating on setting up a separate business involved in technical training for the transport sector. My normal working life has also been ra...

Make sure you clean the condensor and evaporater not forgetting any filters as well.
Good airflow is also paramount for an a/c unit.

Re: Chemists & Powerplant Engineers

A turbofan engine designed to run with gas will run Ok with gas, gee. Maybe even you could reach similar efficiencies. If so, the questions will be: How much does the KCal of gas costs vs the KCal of kerosene? This tells you how much does it cost to go a mile. How much space does the KCal of gas oc...

Re: Afriqiyah A330-200 down in Tripolis

Kerosine is nothing like as flammable as gasoline products. Once it burns, it burns well, getting it to burn in the circumstances you describe is another thing altogether. To get it to burn through friction requires a fair run on a suitable surface (runway). Even then it's not a sure thing. The firs...

Re: Afriqiyah A330-200 down in Tripolis

Except, you know, the gobs of metal, dragging across hard ground causing a spark or two. Probably not in the UK, though, huh? Depends on the material and the surface it's in contact with. Aluminium and composites don't tend to cause much in the line of sparks. Steels and titanium well. The UK is a ...

Re: Afriqiyah A330-200 down in Tripolis

What makes you think the engines were not on the aircraft at impact? Am I missing some information here? I think we can all think of one Airbus accident, in landing attitude which created one helluva fireball? What I'm saying is that there are an awful lot of thought gone into the design of an a/c ...

Re: Afriqiyah A330-200 down in Tripolis

I would expect a fire in most cases like this, I was under the impression that engine pylons were designed to seperate from the wing under high loads. This ensures that the major fire source is removed from the vicinity of the fuel during these kinds of accidents. With the engines gone there is ver...

Re: Afriqiyah A330-200 down in Tripolis

Interesting photos, thanks for the find.

Still not seeing any burn damage
This isn't Hollywood. Not all a/c burn when they crash.
In fact there are design features built in to ensure they don't.

Re: Ash in the Holes

The engines will probably be inspected for signs of excessive erosion or dust accumulation. It's also quite likely that they will check the compressors and/or turbines with an endoscope for crud on the blades.
