FAO Giles: 3WE is with you...or not?
In another post Giles bolded the words with you when I was writing a joke frequency check in. So, has that become "naughty" phraseology and is frowned upon. The whole ATC phraseology buisiness is interesting....Certainly there's needs for some words to be strict and sacred. Then again, why...

That would be a very interesting question to pose. Anyone in? maybe it will help convince CK if we go over to jp.net and wreck the OTF forum there again ;) http://whois.domaintools.com/airdisaster.com NO! It's really irritating when Junior High kids come over here with an immature urge to get even ...

ITS Jet Captain AirDave FLA And just in case Dummy Pilot get's his feelings hurt, Naviator 5. What to do about it? I don't know. PS. Pipe- agree & concur, and as stated- I'm NOT bailing out yet....but you didn't address whether we could get a link on AD.com....are there political problems with s...

Cool vid....I THINK I can see the blades deforming back towards the tower. I'm surprised how the hub keeps spinning as it's going down...my guess (parlor talk) would be that generator resistance would tend to slow the hub, I don't know if for practical purposes an unpowered generator simply becomes ...

Re: FAO Halfie III
Good summary Halfie. I'm not in a hurry to bail, but the traffic level is painfully slow. Your comment of us lacking a front page to draw folks in, but a wide open "resignation door", is tough to overcome. I still proclaim this to be the best collection of refugees. JP is about PHOTOS, and...

We do have previous crashes with Oriental culture being cited that "you do not question the boss" (not that the Tenerife had anything to do with Oriental culture.) Disagree - Tenerife had a lot to do with Oriental culture. One of the contributing factors was the power gradient in the cock...

Re: FAO Halfie III
The traffic level here is not good. Then again, the grade schoolers at Jet Photos are still doing their thing with Flyboy letting them into his cockpit and asking about turkish prisons, humping dogs and naked grown men. Just today, some dude was strongly arguing against Don andy Flyboy both on as to...

Re: Shades of Tenerife?
I think the US standard is to not use the word "Takeoff" except for the actually takeoff clearance. You'll hear something like, "After departure turn left heading one twenty, cleared for takeoff runway one seven." Ok....makes sense.....isn't the phraseology stuff like "an i...

I'm having mixed feelings on this: Why do we expect an airplane to be a mobile, fully-equipped trauma-emergency-room-hospital? What in the heck are sick folks doing getting on planes and expecting the airline to be ready for anything. The dang ariline is trying hard enough to 1) be safe, 2) make a p...

Timetable for ORD reconfiguration/expansion.
Does anyone know a timetalbe for the reconfiguration of ORD to a multi-paralell, east-west affair. I did some Wikipedia reading, and while I found how to get out of coffin corner , the timeline stuff on ORD was vague. I think it mentioned a new runay opening in 2008, but last I knew, construction on...

Certainly one of the most expensive in terms of a "normal" single aircraft crash....that smoking hole in the ground is a whole lot of dollar bills burning up.I'm guessing this will qualify as the most expensive air disaster ever?

Re: Can an Airline pilot resign in mid flight?
For the sake of context, some may find it relevant that the original post occurred within a day or two of Flyboy resigning as moderator , thus some of the discussion here is more humorous than somone genuinely interested in legalities of "resigning from their employer" in flight. That bein...

Is it just me, or does ITS seem to take lots of very direct routes?
Is it because of his genious, or is this a FedEx thing, or are direct routings growing rapidly?

Re: Crew in Hawaii dozes off?
How do you fall asleep on a flight from Honolulu to Hilo ? It takes 40-45 minutes. 24 minutes of silence ? I don't think we have the full story yet. I can't argue that 1) it's strange and 2) yes we don't have the full story yet, BUT how else do you go silet for 24 minutes and get suspended ? If you...

No, sorry very little additional information out there. Edit I did some additional web-surfing and only found the same basic story posted over and over again. Notice the journalist trying to be cool and failing miserably. The plane " overshot " the runway. It's pretty dang amazing that if ...

Crew in Hawaii dozes off?
Any discussion in order of a suspected nod off of a crew in Hawaii. The story goes that they flew past lots of stuff including their airport and were not responding to ATC. Not sure if I belive it or not, but then again, there's plenty of good reasons to overfly and not answer the radio, but apparen...

Number 7. Gotta love all the 727's in that line from the good ole days when Nav enjoyed his job, Flyboy wasn't suspected of being a puppy-mill graduate, ITS and JC couldn't debate NDB approaches because there wasn't a GPS alternative, airplanes didn't come with parachutes, airliners weren't made out...

Re: Yet Another Stroke Of Genius
As I think about this, it isn't a stroke of genious.
It's pistons, connecting rods and crankshafts that do the stroking.
Instead, this would by a jug-full, or cylinder-full of genious.

I am thinking that what you describe is the process to produce cheap composites? Are you sure it is a complete write-off?? I see nothing a bit of duct tape and maybe a bottle of super-glue cannot fix.....Now it's gone.

Re: BA 777 @ LHR
Since we are talking cavitation now, what exactly is a fuel pump on a 777? I'm guessing some turbine/propellor affair. We talk stalls all the time, wing stalls, comperessor stalls, even helicoptor rotor stalls, so let's say you get some funny vortexes or disruption on some "super critical"...
