Re: A380 troubles, the latest news...

I count on you to provide a real answer. Fine. This isn't my area of expertise so my comments are purely speculative (viz: parlour talk). Turbofans have way more blades than turboprops. Right there, the turbofan is more likely to shed a blade, because it has more of them. When a turbofan has a blad...

Re: A380 troubles, the latest news...

Why would it be questionable in an "open fan" turbofan but ok in a turboprop (which are basically the same thing)?
Yes.

Re: A380 troubles, the latest news...

This is all kinds of wrong. Is it possible to redesign a new A380? Yes. No. How does one redesign a new airplane? Imagine a composite wing and a predominantly composite fuselage. Imagine engines that are giving you a 20 to 25% improvement... He just described the 787. He's late to the party. An &quo...

1. Is the taxiway approved for the aeroplanie? (Procedural error) 2. Was the aeroplanie on the centerline? (pilot error) 3. Were the pilots aware of the post and watching/being cautious? (it does seem obvious) 4. Assuming it was illuminated? It’s on in the post-crash pic, so PROBABLY, but not_ABSOL...

Re: ERGSPENSIVE PRONG

The pole went right through the slat and the fixed leading edge. These structures are sized for the airloads, and to transfer those loads into the wing box. Not beefy. When the pole reached the front spar of the wing box (which is beefy structure) is when the pole started leaning over. You can see t...

Re: Wrong Bolts

The vertical fin doesn't see high aero loads basically ever. The torque box is sized for rudder hardover conditions. You could argue that in such an event, the fin twists enough to pop out panels. But there is no evidence that occurred here. One of the "wrong bolts" assertions is that some...

Re: Wrong Bolts

Serious answer now. This is not the first time ever that panels or fairings have departed an airplane in flight. The usual culprit is not_wrong fastener size. It is that they were held on with only a couple fasteners. Panels and fairings get removed to access internal parts that may need to be servi...

Any indication of an STC for cargo conversion for the -8?
That's a hard no. Same thing. A -8 cargo conversion would be a one off. No one is set up to do it, since -8 pax airplanes are years away from being cargo conversion candidates.

Re: Boeing 747: It just keeps going and going...

[Speculation mode = on] This airplane will never see commercial service for a number of reasons. As a VIP aircraft, its interior would have been highly bespoke. The article doesn't indicate how far that customization progressed before the work was stopped. So the airplane would need extensive rework...

Re: China Eastern 737 down

The winglet trailing edge departed the airplane due to the extremely high aerodynamic forces encountered during the near-supersonic dive. It is not the root cause of the crash. You heard it here first.
