Re: Fear of Flying Forum needed?

It´s no secret that I´ve always found the FoF cheap psychological crutches for weak people who are not able to do an effort to overcome their (baseless!) fears on their own.

Re: How to deal with Fearful Flyers?

The whole thing about salmon reminded me of an exchange between me and a fellow pilot at the crew room at JFK a few weeks back. He was eating lunch and I could tell it was fish, but I wasn't sure what kind. So I asked him. "Breaded" was the reply.

Company policy was to set EPR for TO, climb and cruise.
Hehe, we don't even have an EPR indicator.

Re: Classic airplanes

The category "Classic Western Commercial Turbo Jet Aircraft" could be an interesting topic of discussion.

What about Eastern block aircraft?
Aeroflot still operates the Tu-134 and the Yak-40.

Re: Settings memorised ?

The magic number in a 727 is 9000 pounds an hour fuel flow. Three thousand pounds per engine. If the F/E has past out during your 40 minute climb to altitude, pull'em back to 3000 pounds an engine for a good guess as to cruise power. Down low, 3000 across will hold 250 knots. And if you slow up to ...

Re: MH LAX - TPE goes to KIX cause of headwinds

Could have been any number of issues, but if the Capt felt the need to stop and top off just for his own peace of mind, that's good enough for me.

Re: Altitude

What is "IOE"?
Initial Operational Experience. Whenever a pilot is checked out in a new airplane and after he is done with the sim, he must fly a prescribed number of hours with an instructor pilot to learn how said new airplane behaves in the real world.

Re: Settings memorised ?

Excellent question from Frank. We do, in fact, have some thrust settings and other tricks up our sleeve that make our job easier. Example: at most weights and at lower altitudes I can be pretty sure that 60-63% N1 will net 250 KIAS. At climb thrust, 10deg ANU will net 200KIAS, 7.5deg ANU will net 25...

Do T-37s qualify? There are a few of those in private hands, some pristine examples too, like this one that was for sale on ebay a couple of times.
