Re: Sliced in two, you say? Costa Rica 757
I do agree with him that going back to El Coco probably wasn't the greatest decision. Liberia or Tocumen would have been much easier. One thing the video doesn't make very clear and The Might Juan doesn't mention (probably because he hasn't been to El Coco) is that Rwy 07 is quite a bit uphill mitig...

Re: Sliced in two, you say? Costa Rica 757
Do you have some sort of deeper objection to him and his style? Style? Sure, I do object. He is not engaging and entertaining, rather the opposite. But the quality of the information he presents is, in general, very good. And in this case it was excellent with a detailed explanation of the 757's hy...

Please describe the nature of your dissatisfaction with his analysis. It does appear clear, concise and knowledgeably sourced.
He prefaces speculation with suitable language.
So, he started with "San Jose's Costa Rica Airport". I stopped listening after that.

Re: DC-9 -30-40-717-236A stuff.
He makes a point of making videos to answer questions nobody was asking. Not only that, his explanations suck. In this particular case, he never explains why Dial-a-Flap is preferable to just using the next higher flap setting, for example. Nor do I see any point in using 1/5th of a 3min video to ex...

I've landed at SJO. Both on RWY07 as well as RWY25 via the very challenging Cyrus Visual.

Re: Dan Gryder Gray Area.
They do suck, but nowhere near as much as Dan does.I conclude with a question to the group: does the NTSB do a so-so job on General Aviation crashes, and is Danny reasonable in his contentions that they kind of suck?

Because he doesn't know. I'll give him credit, though, at least he's not as painful to listen to as his pal Juan "777Captain" Blancorino, who sounds like he has motor aphasia,
...he fails to explain what the actual difference is...

Re: China Eastern 737 down
Tell me just one thing. Do you sincerely believe that the fact that 2 black boxes of a DC-9-32 that hit the ground almost vertically and almost at the speed of sound and survived* is not an indication at all regarding whether the black boxes of this 738 accident might have survived*? Or are you jus...

Re: China Eastern 737 down
Actually, no. The standards had changed between that DC9-32 and this 738. But you keep on keeping on, Gabito.Thank you for bringing up an accident that happened to an aircraft with black boxes built to the same crash, immersion and fire resistance standards.

Re: China Eastern 737 down
Double post: Do we think the black boxes survived? I don't know, but there is a chance that they did. In 1997 there was a DC-9-32 accident where the pilots got a bad airspeed reading due to the pitot tubes getting iced up, but they thought they were really loosing speed. They added full thrust, the...

Re: Pilot durnked
In Argentina in any sentence up to 3 years they always get parole guaranteed by law unless the criminal act was committed while under parole for a previous crime, in which case they may still get parole anyway (for example if what remained of the previous sentence plus the new sentence doesn't add ...

Always remember that, Gabriel. Always.Besides, he is an airline captain charged with doing this kind of judgement calls. I am not. I can write as much as I want in an internet forum but that's as far as I can go.

Feel free to ask that question in the appropriate forum.

Huhwha?
It made me think back to that wing scrape, where it came to light that Air Bus roll authority is halved after touchdown

Re: What the...?
It's not common, but it happens. A number of airlines have bizjets in their fleet and those airplanes sometimes use airline flight numbers rather than aircraft tail numbers. In general, 8000 or 9000 series flight numbers are reserved for non-revenue flying.
