Re: iMac

Last month, my defenses finally broke down and I bought a smartphone thingy. No, not an iPhone, but the latest (as of October 2010) Samsung one. Obviously inspired by Apple, but said to be better. I rather enjoy it, what with email and internet and all those funny apps, but what makes me mad is when...

Re: Small Dog Diverts Big Plane

I once heard that a few drops of dog's pee are enough to make an airplane's structure brittle to the point of falling apart as soon as the dog decides to sh*t as well?

Re: Norway menstruates.

Once worked vor a Swabian company in their premises during November and December. Swabians are notorious for their miserliness (as e.g. the Scots among the English-speaking people). Their way to limit excessive loo-usage was an open window as the only means of ventilation. And no heating supplied. M...

Wrong. Mechanics are referred to as "Engineers" everywhere (it seems) other than the USA.
NOT true.

Re: Qantas A380 emergency landing in SIN

This has always bothered me. In the US, people who work on planes are mechanics and people who design planes are engineers. By your method, what makes the distinction between an "engineer" http://enigma.mal2.ch/images/8/83/It-wrench.png and an engineer http://www.telestrian.co.uk/eqn/inte...

Re: FAO Charles.........

Considering that these things earn money when transporting goods, to the untrained eye that looks rather like a lot of underutilised assets. Can someone enlighten me...? Roughly what percentage of the time does a cargo 777 need to be airborne to earn money? But this is only a snapshot. What's costi...

Re: Unexplained Missile Launches Off California Coast

Are there no radar recordings of that event?
Something should have shown up on a radar screen, and if so, it shouldn't be too hard to trace it to its orgins, and/or its destination.

Incidentally, I now live less than ten miles direct distance from Daytona Speedway. I think I''m going to get used to the Florida lifestyle real quick. I slept in a hotel right next to German Autobahn A5 last month. Same idea. And now you are suffering from a SNTAS? Good question. Another good ques...

Re: Boeing E-3A simulator

I remember reading that it takes more than five hundred lines of code just to simulate an aircraft battery. I wouldn't be surprised if it were much more than that. Think temperature, ambient pressure, maybe vibration as factors that have to be taken into account. I'm afraid I will never see those p...

Yours truly is just about to finish work on a software module that will be part of a brand-new simulator for the Boeing E-3A. http://www.e3a.nato.int/html/skywatch/Skywatch_2010_18.pdf (see last article on the cover page) They (CAE) have purchased the cockpit section of a commercial Boeing 727 that ...

LHR/A380

Spent some days in London with the wife and sat in Hyde Park and St. James Park for about an hour each, trying to give our hurting feet some rest. Inside that stretch of time, we watched about 4 or 5 A-380 approaching Heathrow airport over the City (Emirates, Qantas, SIA). I had only a 300 mm lens s...

Not to mention the Munich Weißwürschte.

I know.
It did last year. Except for the 3 hours when the airshow was on. Fair enough.
Plus, the Gold Pass accomodation features one of those big tent-like contraptions. Should keep the wife dry (me, I don't really care).

Several days later my wife announced that she was interested in ...
