I am really sorry but I don;t get it: Phugoid! I do not_understand what either of you is on about, and I do this stuff for a living. (a) A neural net classifier is absolutely an algorithm in the classical sense. (b) Sure, aircraft state is nicely organized into scalar numeric quantities (plus a few...

Re: Those Whacky Britts…
I had been looking at regs a week or two ago because someone posted a link in another thread (at least, I think that was here ) and came across language that prohibited it. Which is why I thought it was prohibited. Unfortunately, I'm not likely to be able to find it again, and being only a pretend ...

Sure it is. Meteorite hits the carb, chokes the choke, you lose power suddenly...It is also not compatible with a meteorite strike.
Let's wait for the final report.

My guess was that he got caught out not loading enough taxi fuel, and like most people when they know it's their own fault, got grumpy at everyone around them.

Probably not_the best form to be filming with your phone. Indeed. And ITS probably wouldn’t have gone right of the centerline. Yup. The FB video seems to no longer be accessible; in the shorter video linked from AVH (the longer one seems to no longer be available either, alas) it's pretty clear tha...

Re: Agplane augers in doing non-ag stuff, Blancolirio gets on his soapbox
I did not mean to imply I thought the original accident showed glaring incompetence. I was speaking generally and thinking more of stuff like https://avherald.com/h?article=4d39c0fe&opt=0 and perhaps https://avherald.com/h?article=4f700fec&opt=0 as well as the ever-popular "stall? pull_...

Correct about VFR on top being legal in the US. Not sure in Europe and UK, It is not legal in Argentina. Not sure about "significant restrictions", or any restriction whatsoever on top of the normal VFR restrictions. I had been looking at regs a week or two ago because someone posted a li...

https://avherald.com/h?article=4eb4e975&opt=0 If we discussed it here I can't find it, but my search-fu is not good here and neither is phpBB's. (For example: if you search for "hard landing", even in quotes, it decides "landing" is a stop word and just searches for "har...

Re: Agplane augers in doing non-ag stuff, Blancolirio gets on his soapbox
In general, yes, but I guess the question is: given that in recent years there have been a number of fairly visible examples of pretty glaring incompetence ... what training/experience backgrounds do those come from? I don't know because, as I noted before, I haven't been paying attention. I suppose...

ATC really blew that one, but, also a classic case of a pilot not being assertive enough.
Also, if you are VFR-only aren't you already illegal if you're above unbroken clouds? Or is that only in the US and not in the UK?

Re: Agplane augers in doing non-ag stuff, Blancolirio gets on his soapbox
Show me in what % of airline accidents where pilot performance was a key factor to cause it or to fail to avoid it involved pilots with less than 1500 hours. I don't know, because I haven't been tracking it closely. But, I'd kind of argue that accidents where clear incompetence was a key factor (a ...

Ref “They”: FWIW, the PNF maybe seems to notice they are low, while maybe the PF is THINKING he’s FDnH on a stabilized approach in weather that’s a fair bit better than the traditional 100 & 1,300 Corgis (200 ft, 0.5 miles) Maybe. Hard to tell without the exact CVR transcript... I am a little s...

1: I confess, the once good memory has hiccups…the YouTubeists make a video and sometimes 3BS sees a whole new crash. Friendly razz that YOU recall a thorough discussion. ;) I expect I was vaguely remembering all the avh discussion; there's 350+ comments there, and that was probably around th...

Re: Argie Guv'ment B737 Ancientliner approach and landing at AEP
I think we already concluded that a real overhead pattern does not involve turning to final right before the end of the runway, and that the latter, if it's a recognized move at all, has some other name I haven't been able to find. I suspect it isn't, because it does still have the problem I mention...

Oh also, the video is irritating me because in spite of several map animations he persists in thinking Halifax is north or northeast from Toronto. It isn't.

And, Mentour has acheived Gabriel-status of being extremely verbose. What did they do wrong? How do we prevent this from ever happening again? Gee, I dunno. You are doing a non-precision approach, so when you break out, you better manage altitude. Of course, maybe the insidious thing is that you do...

Realistically, on a large-engine single like a P-51, engine failure at full power will require a rudder reversal. If you want to keep going in the same direction.
