Greenland

We took BA99 LHR-YYZ yesterday and were treated to astonishing views of Greenland just before dusk. Nearly-Mrs monchavo had never seen Greenland before so it was a pleasure to show her some of the fascinating bits and pieces of this awful, rugged land. We overflew Paamiut Airport and I was particula...

Re: Germanwings A320 down in French Alps

We we please explore for a few moments the reasons why the prosecutor has appeared to rule out pilot incapacitation. - CVR noises indicating thumping / hammering to get back in - A descent had been initiated - "regular breathing" or "normal breathing", indicating that the Co-pilo...

Re: Germanwings A320 down in French Alps

I say this tongue-in-cheek, as automation has generally done a lot of nice things...however, back when there was all the grumbling about the elimination of the engineer position... In some ways those folks are getting the last laugh. I'm thinking how airlines could keep a 3-pilot crew busy: the PIC...

Re: Germanwings A320 down in French Alps

remarkable press conference with the Marseille prosecutor. He looked extremely stressed. Chaotic conference. Shouldn't have agreed to answer questions in two languages.

Re: Germanwings A320 down in French Alps

And now it seems just an hour later this rumour is exploding over the news outlets. I find it incredible that the cause of the incident would be leaked in this fashion. Is this a new media strategy to let it out in this way to minimise the impact of the story? Why - what's the PR angle of this appro...

Re: Germanwings A320 down in French Alps

Oh shit.... Gossip that a pilot was locked out... Probably what Monchie was reporting.
Yes. I am not going to repeat it here. Astonishing how 36hrs on this kind of thing would leak from the investigation into the media.

Re: Germanwings A320 down in French Alps

Hello chaps. Some questions if I may - Very few photographs of the site of impact but a great deal of the debris field - I can find no verifiable image of the supposed "point of impact". - Debris field is of course fascinating, with many many small pieces . I have been looking for patterns...

Re: Germanwings A320 down in French Alps

Currently top billing across media all over Europe. Unsurprising given the significance. Isn't Helios the last big passenger bird to go down?
Be interesting to see what the cause was. Rescue teams en-route to a "difficult to access location" apparently.

Seems an unusual course of events to allow the driver to leave? Why did you not insist he stayed to make a statement to police?

Wholly unconvinced, however "authorities" are reporting that they have located the FDR/CVR.

Re: Air Asia down.

- tail section recovered
- fuselage "spotted" on sonar

FDR and CVR apparently not in the tail (?!) although I think it's too early to make that statement yet.
Just checked another report. Piece of tail is v-stab and that's about it. Not connected to rest of tail section.

BBC indicating 40 bodies now recovered. Twitter awash with photographs of debris from the Indonesian reportage.
This is an interesting one.
