Re: New Orleans

It was you who said it was impossible to refute flyboy's position. A position, you'll recall, that advocated allowing our inner cities to devolve into war zones. Is that not a form ethnic cleansing? Just one in which you can feel better because you didn't pull the trigger yourself. Not if the "...

Re: New Orleans

Really, while we're at it, since black people are so beyond any help, wouldn't it be cleaner if we just rounded them up and put them in ovens? No, that's too extreme. Recolonization has its appeal, though, right? Why round them up when they seem perfectly willing to wipe each other out? As for reco...

Of course, they were enslaved just a few generations ago and legally treated as second-class citizens just two generations ago in this country, at least. So, I'm not ready to draw the conclusion that the results are attributable to genetic differences just yet. (I know your response will be, "...

Re: New Orleans

But, in both Summers case and yours, the better question is what if you/he are right? Then, what do we want to do about it as a society. Although clumsy and racially charged, what if you are right that you can't turn a turtle into a cheetah? Then what? What "we" do as a society is stop pr...

Well, it seems to me that despite the black community's identical intelligence and work ethic, their results continue to be deplorable. Even Halfie would have a hard time arguing with that.

Actually, I'm not sure that I do. I understand that you believe there are some innate differences between the races. What I don't know is what you believe those differences to be and whether you believe they are genetic or cultural or a combination. Let's call it genetic, continuosly exacerbated by...

Is it fair to say that this means you equate black people to turtles and white people to cheetahs in terms of intelligence? Work ethic? Something else?

If not, please clarify.

And if the problem was only economic, tell me why 95% of African-Americans believed O.J. was innocent, even educated ones? You will say that it is because they have been persecuted for so long. Well, if that was the case then Jews would also be poor, right? And illegal hispanics would also be at a ...

I'm sure you're right that it creates an small inherent disadvantage in the classroom , but on the plus side, she will come out fluent in two languages (a potential advantage in the job market - though Mandarin might be the best bet...). Penn & Teller are more in touch with political realities than a majority of talking heads/pundits.

I do not know what the demographics are in NYC in regards to the Spanish speaking population so I will not comment. But that's only at a "number" of schools, as you say. I find this a digression from whether or not New York City schools are fairly sensible or not, which was the original proposition. In any case, as an aside, you always made much of your own linguistic skills. In the US today, given the...

It's up there for sure, though I still nominate the Canadians. What makes you say that about New York schools ? Well, unlike you, I actually spent some time in one. But seriously, this is the school district that has a number of so-called "Spanish Immersion" schools. Trouble is, 95% of th...

I don't agree. It would have been worse. It was two passanger jets and I doubt one of them would have been as lucky as the Legacy.

Before we dogpile P4P, it should be noted that in recent years, influential African-Americans have been decrying the cultural attitude of "it's not my fault."
You mean like Sharpton, Jackson, Wright, Farrakhan, Nagin, etc?

If they did bet someone smarter would start their own aircraft company and snatch away employees ...

Now your true ignorance to the labor situation comes out. SMART companies do not outsource just because they can get a lower wage. Here are some facts on outsourcing you may not now: 1. High tech companies tend to outsource the grunt work (paperwork, rememdial tasks, etc) overseas. Given the fact t...

I work in an industry that is NOT unionized and make more than a decent wage. Is HP, IBM, Apple, Google unionized... no they pay a decent wage and benefits to attract workers but can be competitive in the global economy because they are not hampered by excess regulation. Get real! Good for you. Not...

Well it should not be. There is no place for a bunch of union hacks being able to shut down a company without fear of retribution and to thumb their noses at those who are unemployed, or do not make nearly the amount of $ and benefits that these guys make. It is seriously time to get these laws off...

No, I don't, Don. But you're right on your second statement, which was the point of my original comment. You forgot to mention that neither have there been any 787s rushed back to Boeing to square the wiring away. Perhaps it was unwise for some manufacturers out there to bet their reputation on a s...
