Re: What to do in a Tornado Warning
I'm pretty certiain that a number of folks succesfully fled the two recent Oklahoma City tornadoes...although, yes, a few were caught in their cars. Are you suggesting that the huge swath of obliterated homes (including the proverbial central closet or bathroom) were full of folks who followed the ...

Yep, and aircraft are all about weight savings, so there is a differing Engineering concept altogether.

GlennAB1: Having been an inspector in the aviation industry for 25 years, I can't find anything wrong with the wiring in that picture. It may be perspective... looks like some wires may be crossed and touching, I see clamps and standoffs so they aren't touching. Only goes to show that standards dif...

Re: 787 inflight structural breakup in 3....2....1....
I could not find the picture I refered to which is basically the same as this, minus the results of the fire and the guy with his ass in the air. Never mind that, look at the wires. They are crossed, they are touching, they are not fixed at proper intervals, some of the radii looks suspiciouly smal...

I believe there was a picture posted of an aircraft still in assembly, that could be were the messy idea is coming from. What is this "messy" electrical installation you're talking about, too? Your link below doesn't work.

Re: Motorcycle-style throttle control.
There's really not much wrestling with the yoke with modern hydraulically powered flight controls. And, turbine engines have lag, they don't respond like a motorcycle... there's really no need for a control like that.

Re: BA Oslo-bound jet in suspected bird strike
The problem the LE was having was that the hook part was not engaging so the latch could be pushed flush but the mechanism was not securing the cowl. Hence the need for a neanderthal like me to push on the cowl so that the latch would reach far enough to engage properly. To the engineer, it was obv...

Re: BA Oslo-bound jet in suspected bird strike
Where's our Swiss cheese guy on this one.... You never want to lose engine cowling, you not only risk substantially damaging the aircraft which could include loss of life, but it also endangers people on the ground. It also induces a lot of drag which could come into play with other failures and you...

You don't think it's a great deterrent just to let them know they might face armed resistance if they ever try another 911. Bring on the box cutters, we got hand guns!!!

Re: BA Oslo-bound jet in suspected bird strike
Hard to spot the latches as they are low down and you'd have to crawl underneath to really check they were properly closed. Most engine cowlings are quite obvious to the trained eye whether latched or not. Agree. However, I have rarely seen pilots or line spanners really take a close look on a turn...

Re: BA Oslo-bound jet in suspected bird strike
No need to add weight to the aircraft... Same thing has happened where I work. The fix was to make cowling latches an RII item, so it takes two sets of eyes and two signatures when closing and latching cowls. And, there haven't been any more cowl losses since implementation.

Re: Fighter jets "escorting" "at-risk" aircraft
There is a difference between discussing general security terms and specifics. Specific details about security measures and counter-measures should never be discussed, as they are part of the design basis threat assessment. General information such as "Our airline has security measures in plac...

Re: BA Oslo-bound jet in suspected bird strike
Wouldn't the pilot walking around the plane prior to departure detect this?! I'm sure the walk-around is great and detects stuff, but from watching out the window, I don't see pilots doing in-depth fastener checks all over the plane...they rarely break stride...peek at the tire tread, brakes, look ...

Venezuela hopes to wipe out toilet paper shortage by importing 50m rolls.. I wonder if it's going to be delivered by aerial bombardment?
