No, I don't know the 787.... So, does that make the battery(ies) the main player?

Re: 787 inflight structural breakup in 3....2....1....
Every transport catagory aircraft I know of has air starters for the engines and an electric starter for the APU.But you still need a lot more battery capacity for starting engines and emergencies.

Re: The Golden Age of Flying
It boils down to company policy and ease of installation of the covers, some are a real pain in the. 707's were very easy to install and remove.

Re: The Golden Age of Flying
I make fun of "Spotters" like everyone else, but THIS PAGE is pretty cool. It's one guy's photo album of LAX airport from the 50s through the 80s. It starts with DC7s and finishes with L1011s. It's liiterally hundreds of pics scrolling on one page, but I couldn't stop looking. I was in Li...

And if you don't believe what's on the shirt, you haven't experienced the gratitude some express when they "HAVE" to be somewhere and "YOU" make their aircraft airworthy. Honestly, there's no feeling like it.

Re: Boeing 747: It just keeps going and going...
I think it's amazing it only takes a little over 1 psi differential average over the wing surface to lift a 747-400 at MTOW.

Like comparing a 747 and RJ.
I don't really see how ........ size is relevant here.

Re: Qantas A380 emergency landing in SIN
That is why most pilots do a cursory preflight... because they can't "ensure" airworthiness, and they trust maintenance, they have to, and they like having less to do, they are generally lazy, which, you pointed out! Something that's deferable or within limits.... Funny you would point out...

Re: Qantas A380 emergency landing in SIN
are you suggesting a walkaround of a 747 is unnecessary since certainly nothing can or will be found on an airplane that big in only 15 minutes? If not, what are you suggesting? I would think that part of being qualified in an airplane would be knowing what some of the more common trouble spots are...
