Re: Things I like about great and glorious mother Russia
Didn't they finally shut that thing down? I don't mean the reactor that tried to "go to 11", I mean the others. It stopped producing power in 2000. They're still decomissioning. Decom will last another few decades. Remember there are no successfully fully decommissioned major Nuclear Powe...

Re: CB monkeying cat.
What makes arc welders work? That's easy... magic. My first arc welder was a really weird transformer I found dumpster-diving at a cable headend, and a set of jumper cables. I used it to fabricate (and I use that term very loosely) exhaust bits when I turbocharged my first Saab. I still have ...

Re: CB monkeying cat.
I had a place in NYC... Ahhhh. New York is not_part of America. I am surprised (not_shocked) that 220 was not_available, conversely, gas-heated stuff is available for most 220V applications, as well as small 110V air-conditioners. 110/220 is more prevalent in Flyover, along with God, Apple Pie, and...

Re: CB monkeying cat.
1. I am part serious part trolling. 2. What's not commonly known is that you can get 220v in most domestic applications with modern wiring. 1a. Isn’t that normal? 1b. Clarification is happening- I am seeing that the wife’s ‘10,000’ Watt hair drier has a CB 2. Not sure- I think most folks are aware ...

Re: CB monkeying cat.
Typical HOME USA 110V Circuits are 15 or 20 amps, you guys DO seem to pack the power. I knew it was 220 in Europe. I did not_know that so many amps were available for y’all. “Complete lack of fuses”: No comprende, and we do not recommend wires under carpet. We have circuit breakers protecting most ...

Re: CB monkeying cat.
I need to be clear. The maximum you can draw if you shorted the fuse would be 32a at 240v. That's a very, very large amount of power for a domestic situation. Applicances cannot be rated at more than 12a.

Re: CB monkeying cat.
Did you have to lift floorboards? You have armoured wiring in the states, which I am always amused by - we don't have that in Europe. No floorboard lifting, it was a good flyover house with a basement to escape tornadoes and good attic access. I will have to study up on your EU wiring and such. Bla...

monchavo recently did some house wiring. 3BS redid a 1920s house...It was fun. For snarcasam: This stuff should never be used to manage aeroplanie control surfaces, except maybe flaps on light aeroplanies that really don’t need flaps... Did you have to lift floorboards? I replaced two light fittings and three switches to enable the full installation across the house of LED lighting in one case I materially improved the safety of the installat...

Re: Cat Attacks Pilot
If it would have been safe to operate the plane with one pilot in a holding pattern, why would the co-pilot or another competent person not sort the cat out - possibly locking it in a toilet, or even dispatching it? This seems like a silly course of events.

Re: United B777-200 uncontained engine failure? over Denver
I do wonder however if there are instances of a piece of cowling hitting at just the right angle or fast enough to cause material damage to a wing (?)Ah, thanks J - hadn't read that. So this was indeed a contained failure.

Could you please share a picture where you see this damage?Does anyone already know what struck the wing root underneath the wing? When I saw those pictures I assumed that this was uncontained in the technical sense.

Are there any fishermen here? I am toying with the idea of getting into the hobby. Seafishing primarily, no interest in river or lake really.
