Re: Breaking: new seaplane base opens in Florida

Now it is infested with squids.
I lived in FL for a couple of years and I'm pretty sure it's been infested with squids for a long time. Also alligators.

Re: NOTAM

Footnote: the media is indeed in fine form.
Can you imagine if they just wrote "Someone called us and said there's a plane upside-down on the runway. We sent someone to take photos but we have no friggin' idea what happened."

Re: Not_Karlie's computerie corner

I've owned a number of old computers when they weren't old... does that count? My first was one of these: https://www.old-computers.com/museum/computer.asp?st=1&c=860 It was actually a pretty capable machine for little money. I learned a lot using it, and in particular learned that if you're goi...

Re: Flying is dangerous and should be banned....

Ironingly, I rotated my tires today. After removing the lug nuts, the Al/Mg rims were nicely bonded to the Fe hubs. Much sledgehammer whacking was involved, and I went the extra kilocorgi to thoroughly wire brush the corrosion and apply anti-seize compound. Now, my paranoid side worries that I cont...

Re: Learning to fly is dangerous and should be banned...

Doh! That's the one I meant to link. Seems like maybe we should be focusing less on the shape of wheels and more on how they're attached to aircraft.

Learning to fly is dangerous and should be banned...

Call me a softie, but I must say it's nice to see an example of people supporting each other and working together to create a good outcome from a bad situation - contrary to all the divisiveness and negativity one usually experiences in the media.

Re: Flying is dangerous and should be banned....

That is an excellent example of the horrible things that can happen when you drive 31 in a 30 zone.  Sorry, I'm a tad cynical about "strict enforcement" of speed limits based on the "speed kills" mantra. Yes I'll acknowledge that did_died is a strong possibility if yo...

I have few memories of Electras after the 1960s.
So you're saying traveling on those was "Electra-flying"?

Re: Flying is dangerous and should be banned....

Yeah I saw a lively discussion of that on another forum... there was a lot of "Dummy didn't tighten the lug nuts" until someone pointed out that at one point you can see a brake rotor still attached to the wheel. So, hub failure maybe? Many (many) years ago a friend bought a Dodge Neon ACR...
