Re: BA 777 @ LHR
And one more time for the hard-of-hearing, fuel was spilled at the crash site. I wrote a reply to this this morning, but either it failed to post or I chickened out. So, I'll post it now: So what! There is this thing called "unusable fuel" and I'm thinking that there was a lot of discussi...

Re: BA 777 @ LHR
And one more time for the hard-of-hearing, fuel was spilled at the crash site. No - the report says fuel was spilled at the crash site and if you dont beleive the report is anything other than a cover up, why would you beleive that anything in the report is factual? like for example Boeing supporti...

Re: BA 777 @ LHR
Actually thinking about it, if you want to cover up out of fuel and use ice, you dont come up with some crap like this. You contaminate the samples with water to show that there was excessive water there in the first place, bung that through the super cold and say hey presto there was too much water...

Re: EMAS or "Near Total Airdisaster"
From the FAR (b) No flight crewmember may engage in, nor may any pilot in command permit, any activity during a critical phase of flight which could distract any flight crewmember from the performance of his or her duties or which could interfere in any way with the proper conduct of those duties. A...

Re: BA 777 @ LHR
Fair do's, but I reckon if it was out of fuel, it would have been a damn site easier for BA to have let the investigation find that, sack the crew and pin the blame on some Chinese fueler.Yes.
you still reckon out of fuel?

you still reckon out of fuel?I think what they've proven is that they lack the gonadal fortitude to say what really occurred here. What they have proved is that there is an industry wide lack of knowledge about ice in fuel.

Re: Damn, I just bought some furry mittens
I also loved some of the reasons why you should discount the higher temperature readings from weather stations In Britain, a weather station at Manchester airport was built when the surrounding land was mainly fields but is now surrounded by heat-generating buildings. So the good news, there isn't r...

Re: Damn, I just bought some furry mittens
The thing with the British press is you should always read the last two paragraphs! The European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts has recently issued a new set of global temperature readings covering the past 30 years, with thermometer readings augmented by satellite data. Dr Vicky Pope, he...

I cannot get excited about computer generated movies. I'm sorry, I just can't. The thing that made me want to go and see it was that it was not run of the mill "computer generated" i.e. an animation with actors reading a voice over from a lectern. The scenes were all acted out by actors o...

Re: BA 777 @ LHR
I found it a bit odd that the following are all mentioned in the report a) there seemed to be an element of uniqueness as to how long the flight/fuel spent at the extremely low temperatures b) as fuel temperature is lowered more water changes from entrained to free c) it is the free water rather tha...

Lets also be clear about the "overseas" bit - to and from Canada, Mexico, Hawaii, the Caribbean and Central America. So what that really means is "where our main competition is other US legacy and low cost carriers" Where the competition is long haul Asian/Middle Eastern/European...

No, but there has been some trimming and a union between an older and younger thread.Has the subject of personal hygiene been raised? In spite of a very short time period and some appropriate harassment from one Andrew Troop, there are already two genuine complaints about this livery...

What if the pilots truly were dead-dog tired, and functioning like zombies, and even "drifted out of normal conciousness". How would you reconcile that with this? ...board member Robert Sumwalt blasted the crew for engaging in almost a steady stream of extraneous conversation during much ...

Yeah - the down side being that it is insanely satisfying and brilliant fun, leaving very little to grumble about as an "apprentice"Again--it comes down to airmanship and experience to make the judgement----and the best place to get that initial experience is in a sailplane.

You know when we were flying and I was worried we might hit something in the storm and you said the only thing we could possibly hit at this height was a cloud stuffed with rocks?
Well?
How did you know?

As a parent this scares the living crap out of me. You try to be vigilent 100% of the time - but especially with more under 5s than hands, there are brief moments when at least 1 of them isn't being watched.
