Re: Wake Turbulence there.

Apologies for belaboring things. I was hoping for someone to say (in simple terms) Yes, 3BS, you make a valid point. OR No, actually the wake from a jumbo heavy jet could dangerously disrupt another jumbo heavy jet in the case of mild cheating (like shown in the video)- even though we give much less...

Wrong year?
(And date format? )
Yes.

My resolution for the new year is to remember to say 2017 by 2/1.

I also recognize the advantage of DD.MM.YYYY formatting... but Not_the Metric system.

5 years since the brutal murder of those Geeses and still no charges?
8 years, now.

But after all the jokes, here's a semi serious news story:

Tejas: 1/11/2016

The flight from Flyover seemed slow. The flight to Austin lifted off at about 120 Kts as estimated by my smartphone GPS. Landings were not the gentleness I've seen, but were pretty good.

Did any of our forumite pilots get to enjoy the warm 25 kt breeze?

Maybe the trip home will go faster?

Re: Wake Turbulence there.

What I see is that the second Jumbo is approaching at a quite faster vertical speed before the flare with no significant rolling. Fixed . I note that a pilot suggested that the second 747 was making a high approach and "dive" potentially to avoid wake turbulence, but that does not mean th...

Do you acknowledge it for my first post too? (although I would use the word irony)

Re: Wake Turbulence there.

I see no wake of the proceeding one. Of course not. The wake is invisible (most of the times anyway). Nice try, and yes, I acknowledge humourous intent. The aggie scientist used the word 'evidence'. The aggie again challenges the hell better aeroengineer...the sort of sudden, fairly straight down p...

Re: Wake Turbulence there.

I see no evidence that the trailing 747 encountered the wake of the proceeding one.

The first plane makes as many, if not more control deflections.

Plus, one other person has a somewhat similar opinion that the hard looking landing may not be due to the wake...AND this gives me great pride.

Wake Turbulence there.

I hereby proclaim that it is bologna for 747's to worry about wake separation distances from other 747's (within common sense and normal operations, of course) For littler planes following bigger planes, yeah sure. But most of the rest of the time: -172's don't worry about wake turbulence from 172's...

Re: Wake Turbulence...there.

Ironingly, here's another 'double runway occupancy incident'...I would expect that the winds here would minimize the chance of a wake encounter.

Also cool how planes occasionally completely shed those JT-8D's. (A 707 from LA to Flyover lost an engine exactly one week after Grandma rode it (or the route)...(sometime in the 1980s)...seems to happen less often these days. Not sure what JT-8Ds have to do either with the BUFF or the 707, but car...

I dare say (with 13% ironing that)- thank heavens it was designed to operate after losing an engine. https://www.yahoo.com/gma/b-52-bomber-loses-engine-during-training-flight-122756698--abc-news-topstories.html Also cool how planes occasionally completely shed those JT-8D's. Is there a question there somewhere? Apologies: Are Boeing Bobby and Evan incorrect in stating that "The second 747 should have gone around to avoid wake turbulence"? OR (inferred) Is 3BS basically correct in his bottom line comment in the original post...that 'needing to go around' in th...

It seems that YouTube is full of videos of these folks operating from shorter places and places with terrain...

Makes me speculate that maybe they were very used to these operations and that some small thing went wrong... power problem, a little extra weight...

Oh for TOPMS or V-3BS
