Was it wrong? Absolutely. Was it irresponsible? Absolutely. Was it unsafe? Hand flown departure into thunderstorm, Then vertigo (like sharm el sheik (sp?)) would be one possible explanation.

However from what I've read Ethiopian has excellent safety and thus I would assume good CRM... Anyway just a theory, time will tell

Wasn't there a Kenyan 737NG which crashed under similar circumstances a few years ago? (Stormy weather, shortly after departure?)

Ahh but yes, when the snow has drifted to reach the top of a 10 foot hanger door, and the runway is equally covered in snow, it makes it somewhat difficult I would imagine?

But I've seen how Texans drive in the snow.

They just don't understand winter.
