Re: Steep Banks at 10K feet, 250 knots and 45 degrees in the sim...

Additional ramblings: Do steep banks only occur at 10,000 feet and 250 knots? Can't they happen at other altitudes and speeds. (And regardless if it's wake turbulence or weather or some sort of collision avoidance maneuver.) ...and you are in the sim, right? Why not try it at 1000 ft AGL, full flaps...

Steep Banks at 10K feet, 250 knots and 45 degrees in the sim...

I don't recall what altitude or speed we did steep banks in aluminum 172s* (safety was a major consideration), but the objectives of said banks were too: - Hone stick and rudder skills to maintain altitude with healthy back-pressure without stalling ... -And to remember that steep banks are somethin...

Also, LHB and I may have to fire up our LH-747's on MSFS and pretend to fly Flyboy from MCO to FRA and back...

It could be almost as good as Bobby making a real freight run.

Quote = Flyboy:

It was interesting to observe some non-US air carrier procedures. Some things LH does would never happen on a US carrier, and I'll just leave it at that.

Wrong forum, should have been posted there ;)
Absolutely- ATL crew needs to make a semi-parallel post, there.

LSD-747 would make at least three consecutive, fond, marginally comprehedable replies.

It would appear we should ban all overhead bins...Flyboy even concurred, somewhat.

Still, banning aircraft is probably incrementally better.

PS: How do you like my cropping?
Can't comment on pictures that are Not_upload size and are not in an allowed aspect ratio.
Are you Brian?

The more I look at the photo, I think it sucks as the fertilizer is pretty much obliterated by foreground clutter.

Re: Lightning detection for turbulence/storm avoidance.

Thanks. I will pontificate from my rear for a moment using flawed memory. I think the Stormscope used pretty basic ADF type electronics to locate the bearing. The strength of the signal determined distance (a reasonable correlation- but strong lightning bolts would be indicated as closer than they a...

Lightning detection for turbulence/storm avoidance.

Seems that in the 1970's and 1980's the typists-light-plane-operating-and-therefore-experts-in-all-things-aviation-bunch devoted a moderate amount of type-face to the Ryan (lightning-detection) Stormscope in Flying Magazine. In particular, they would suggest that their low-tech Stormscope actually d...

Would not have happened if Boeing Bobby was driving. I know our pilots don't want to judge their coworkers, but were there better options to dodge / penetrate these storms? The gap to the South looked wider and gentler. Also, it seems they were just a few too many miles to the right...a little more ...
