Leslie Nielsen passes away at 84

Postby Procede » Mon Nov 29, 2010 8:38 am

(CNN) -- Leslie Nielsen, whose longtime career as a dramatic actor took a sudden turn into comedy with spoofs like "Airplane!" and "The Naked Gun," has died at age 84, his family said Sunday.

The Canadian-born Nielsen's career reached back into the early days of television, when he made frequent appearances on live drama series like "Goodyear Playhouse." He played the earnest starship captain in the 1956 science fiction classic "Forbidden Planet" and made regular appearances on a wide range of TV dramas into the 1970s.

Much of that changed in 1980, when he was cast as a doctor aboard an endangered jetliner in the gag-a-minute disaster-movie parody "Airplane!" Nielsen's deadpan delivery of lines like "I am serious -- and don't call me Shirley" helped launch a second career.

Don't call him Shirley.

How does Dummy Pilot feel about this?
I was so broken up about the news that I felt the need to seek immediate comfort from those around me......

....and to my good friend Mr. Nielsen as he makes his way into the great unknown , I say:

"Good Luck, we're all counting on you"

Frank Drebin: That's the red-light district. I wonder why Savage is hanging around down there.
Ed Hocken: Sex, Frank?
Frank Drebin: Uh...................... no, not right now, Ed. We've got work to do.
Not complete without remembering his dead serious face.

How does Dummy Pilot feel about this?
More importantly, how does Dummy Pilot take his coffee?

Sad news indeed--I've always enjoyed Nielsen's humor.

Dummy pilot, being a conscientious pilot takes his coffee intravenously. This way he can keep both hands on the tiller and remain in control. Watch out for sugar lumps.

Per,

Just in case you and I ever get married, it's important for you to know that I can't stand coffee...never touch the stuff. Come to think of it, I don't like drinking any hot liquids.....while I thoroughly enjoyed my exchange tour with the UK's RAF, one downside was their insistence on serving hot tea at all times of the day.

With that said, I do enjoy my caffeine (and high fructose corn syrup) in the form of Coca Cola and any First Officer or Flight Attendant who flies more than one leg with me jokingly knows the standard answer to the question "What do you want from the galley"......"Coke and Ice, please!"

I'd say the chances of the two of us getting married are fairly remote considering the physical distance between us, but stranger things has happened. You may start flying long haul, you may fly to Europe, I will be worried. That said, I'm a coffee drinker. I'll have a couple of liters daily and full strength if you please, no wimpy decaf for me. Tea I was permanently weened off after a number of years in China, the stuff being forced upon me at every conceivable opportunity. Soft drinks? I don't touch it, don't like it.
Exceptions:
Rum and Coca Cola
Piping hot, very strong, very sweet (brown sugar) tea with rum on a cold apres ski day.

I find that when I start working on my second or third pot of coffee I start to feel the effects of too much caffeine, so I usually drink coffee in the morning and black tea in the afternoon/evening if I want a hot caffeinated drink.

My preferred rum and coke is Coke Zero and Bacardi Silver. Regular Coke has too much sugar.

When I drink Cubra Libre, which is not very often it is full strength Coke and dark rum. Never understood the point of decaf and lite products. Must be an American thing, much good it does.

I wish, and bottoms as well. I'm not a tits man, milk is not on the menu anymore. I can however confirm that Cuba Libres in sufficient quantities will have bras fluttering to the floor like autumn leaves. Highly recommended.

Well, in "sufficient quantities" even the cheapest American beer will have the same effect.

I don't mind the odd 'lite' product.
Then again, I'm diabetic.

That is a valid point, my father and younger sister were both diabetics.
