Linux #@§$%&**!

Postby ZeroAltitude » Mon Mar 07, 2011 3:15 pm

Does anybody know a good Linux-bashing site?

Right now I'm in my second consecutive Linux project, and I simply hate it.

I mean, there's a perfectly good Windows world out there - why bother with a good-for-nothing, tree-hugger, green-tea-drinker OS like Linux?
As soon as I'm finished with these two godforsaken projects, I will only take on Windows projects in the future, that's for sure.
The really sick part is that in one of these projects, those people develop on Linux, but the target platform is .... Windows. How sick can it get?
Some people claim that they can do everything with Linux that can be done with Windows.
I'm not so sure about that. Yes there are applications that claim to do it, but I'd yet have to see one that does it nearly as good as its Windows counterpart.

Especially development environments. May the sun set completely on Eclipse as soon as possible!

Long live Visual Studio!

..... feeling better now.

To each his own, I am happy when I can avoid microsoft products, they are bloated and create far too much superfluous code.

It's a real pity that Linux is just a piece of crappy software with no bodily existence.
Otherwise it might be great fun beating it into shape with a nine-pound hammer.

I've had good experiences running Ubuntu on my old, slow laptop for the last four years or so. I also used to dual-boot Windows XP on it but the cumbersome slowness of that doesn't make it worth the effort to bother with anymore. The only thing I never was able to figure out how to do was re-configure the video outputs to allow me to use my S-video port with linux. That was a couple years ago, however, so they may have a better xorg now. The ability to natively ssh into the aero dept. servers from the terminal is also very handy, especially if you know how to use an x-terminal.
Windows 7 on my homebuilt desktop.

I have been running Ubuntu since 6.10, very happy with that, and the rest of the family also use it, no problems there. I haven't looked into the s-video thing, haven't had a pc hooked up to the tv yet (still have a 1994 wide screen CRT that just wont die) and all video has been done over firewire.

I have windows 7 as a dual boot option on a desktop and on a laptop, and I must (reluctantly) admit that Microsoft finally delivered a fairly decent OS, and there are of course some applications that are not available for *nix, but to a great extent it fulfills the needs of the average user. It is just a question of learning to deal with one system as opposed to another, most have their idiosyncrasies and strengths, and I happen to like Ubuntu a lot.

Said laptop came with Win XP SP2, then was "upgraded" to Vista. After dealing with Vista for a short time, it became obvious that an alternative solution was needed. Thus Ubuntu, then due to certain software compatibility limitations, XP was added as a dual-boot.

I've used Win 3.1, 95, 98, 2000, XP, Vista, and 7. Win7 is by far the best, and the only decent one for some time.

In the MS DOS days (or CPM or Apple II/whatever), things made a little sense.

Now, it takes a 30 min for my giga megahertz, mega gigabyte power-machine to boot up so I can read simple text e-mails at work.

So? ... no enterpreneur view of things.

Microsoft products (seriously, who in his sane mind would name a product of his like this? "Micro" and "Soft"?) have the biggest market share atm, but its not where the true money sits methinks: Kids and their games.

Serious performance of software for third part developers today is measured by a) connectivity, b) open access and c) vision of the environment to come. In all those three respects Windows (and other microsoft stuff like the dreadful "word" ) sucks.

Sincere condolences to all Norwegians! I guess you will need some aquevit to get over this.
