The best program we have on TV here is the test pattern. By far.

Only goes to show that we have too much money in this country and that central politicians are trying to buy votes locally. No one, except those who live there wants this, it will be a financial disaster.

Re: Norwegian exceptionalism
Shit just got real:
Fiery passions erupted into floods of complaints about a TV show broadcast in Norway - about how best to stack firewood.
Norwegians apparently love to talk about wood. Burning wood, stacking wood, cutting down trees. You get the picture.
The TV show was shown to commemorate National Firewood Night - "because firewood is the foundation of our lives.”
Nowegians appear to be barking about bark.
“We received about 60 text messages from people complaining about the stacking in the program,” author Lars Mytting told the New York Times. Mytting's bestselling book inspired the show.
“Fifty percent complained that the bark was facing up, and the rest complained that the bark was facing down.”
“One thing that really divides Norway is bark.”

One would think that us Norskies are barking mad, one is probably correct. On the other hand we are in a position o focus on the important issues of life.

Thing is you burn girly soft woods like pine, not proper woods like Beech or Alder or Oak.

We burn whatever is available, but the most popular wood is birch. Looks good, fairly good calorific value, burns clean and plentiful. One should be careful with too much spruce and pine. Too much resin, possible chimney fire.Thing is you burn girly soft woods like pine, not proper woods like Beech or Alder or Oak.

Re: Norwegian exceptionalism
It does, doesn't it. Birch also looks good when stacked near the fireplace. My number one choice. As a matter of fact I'll be cutting down two birches which are about to steal the sun from our apartment this weekend. They will be duly chopped and trailered to our cabin in prepared for next winter. We burn whatever is available, but the most popular wood is birch. Re: Norwegian exceptionalism
Per, one funny thing about this boy is that I was taught to chop wood way, way back in my teens when my parents decided to seriously get into gardening and have a go at some of the trees around them. I get a real visceral pleasure from splitting logs, but I've not done it in a long time now being a proper city boy :/

Know what you mean, I have a hydraulic splitter, but take more pleasure from using an axe. Cut down a couple of trees yesterday, chopping and cleaning up today.Per, one funny thing about this boy is that I was taught to chop wood way, way back in my teens when my parents decided to seriously get into gardening and have a go at some of the trees around them.
