Practicalities CPH airport and city

Postby capslock » Mon Jan 13, 2014 10:14 am

Will be flying into CPH around Easter and driving to the island of Moen. Can do a late arrival on Thursday before Easter.

Stay at airport hotel or downtown? I guess this depends on whether there is anything to do in Copenhagen on Godfriday. Will at least museums be open?

If hotel downtown, use public transport and then pick up car downtown or pick up car at airport and drive downtown? The rates I can get for pickup and return at airport are already hard to beat (about €30/day including full insurance), but I remember from previous visits that parking is difficult downtown.

I'm an expert on CPH, but I only been outside the terminal for a smoke and an the occasional night at the airport hotel due flight cancellations, so no good advise from me.
What I am curious about is, why Møn, and why at that time of the year. I thought it was best avoided?

Good train service from CPH right downstairs. I transferred to and from the airport to Malmo, Sweden with no problems. Metro and busses operate as well.

Well, parents in law are abducting our kids for Easter vacation, so we thought we'd keep an eye on them the long weekend that we don't have to work ;)

Møn (had to copy that from your post as my keyboard will only give me an ö) is actually quite beautiful before the hordes of tourists arrive. We used to go there in spring or early summer, even for XMas one time, before we moved to southern Germany where the drive is simply too long.

Parking in central Copenhagen is hell, these days we always use public transport going to the city. (Of course it helps to be working there and using the system every day, so all rides are already paid for. )
There will likely be more commercial life in Copenhagen on Good Friday, the legislation on business on holidays has been considerably relaxed and since many people go to Copenhagen for the Easter vacation, museums will be open. There is a full week of school holidays, so you will likely see plenty families around the city. And on Møn, too.

Oh, the wife says to go to the city, staying at the airport is too boring ;-)

On the other hand, if the price of the airport hotel is Ok, then getting to and from the city on the metro or train is a breeze. About 12 minutes from Central Copenhagen, if I recall correctly. The hotel is only a place to sleep anyway.

Mid April can be nice, many Danes will definitely grab the Easter vacation to start the summer house season, but probably not a lot of furriners just yet.

I once went to a very nice Bangladeshi restaurant with Sir G in CPH. True story.

I am married, yes, but let's just expand the usability of the hotel to " a place where you spend the night "

No it isn't, the lions are fed raw meat on the bone as they are in any good zoo all over the world.

The whole story about the giraffe just shows how far removed many people are from the reality of life.

The giraffe story was exceptionally big in the UK. 3 days coverage. Grotesque.
