Finally! Jobhunting is over
I might have put this in the Aviation Discussion, or evenAviation Safety Discussion forum, but it will probably do fine here.
After a number of years trying to get a foothold in some kind of IT related job, I have now got a job with my former employer and in my former position: Greenland Airport Authorities as AFIS operator and instructor at the AFIS training facility at BGBW (61 09 38.59N 045 25 32.43W)
About three months ago I started looking into getting a posting as AFIS operator again, and fairly quickly I had three interviews that resulted in two actual job offers. I chose the offer with the greatest potential for professional and personal development, the one where much of the time will be filled with training new operators. And the periods with no students will be filled with normal AFISO duty at a yet to be determined airport in Greenland. Could actually be a different airport for each given period, but we will see.
In a month I will start a short and intensive course to get back up to the required standard before commencing OJT in Greenland, probably going up there in July.
It is going to be soooo good to get back into the tower, and great to be able to teach new generations of dedicated AFISOs.

Yeah, Greenland is a bit off the beaten track, depending on your vantage point, of course. Narsarsuaq is only a bit further North than Oslo, so that will not be too bad light wise over The winter. In The summer I could in theory be stationed at any airport and thus have a great opportunity to see more of the country than I have already.
I will have a problem importing my whisky collection, though

Congratulations, Sir G! How long will you spend there? Forgive my ignorance, but do you take the family or go out for 'tours of duty'?

On the family front, well, that institution has gone down the drain, I am afraid. we are going our separate ways. Will be hard to be away from my daughter for long stretches of time, but we will deal with that with the help of the www and as frequent visits as possible.
The time frame is not set in stone, but I imagine a few years there.

G, send me the bottles before that old viking fossil grabs hold of them. It's better for you both that way.
Re: Finally! Jobhunting is over
H, well done on getting a job. Were you surprised to be accepted back into the fold at Greenland?
You could always brew your own beer rather than rely on local supplies (?) it could develop into an interesting new hobby - particularly as I can't imagine there's too much to do in Greenland!
