So far, the games have been as exciting as listening to paint dry over the radio.
Always take the under when betting soccer (usually the o/u is 1 1/2).
The only thing that could make this sport even remotely exciting would be the secret placement of landmines in the field. I'd settle for toe-poppers and I'm sure even Caroline Kennedy would approve.
Gotta love a sport where fans throw bags of urine. I guess I would too if I spent an entire year's salary on a ticket just to see one lousy goal scored.
I'm trying to think of my most frightening concept of Hell: Watching any soccer game..., or any WNBA game?

So, the USA is trying to be more enlightened and follow this "much more worldly" sport. However, I am among those who are as confused as ever- today we lost to Germany, so we get to advance?!?!?!?

I think I'll go back to watching US-style cricket with the pie shaped field and games that end after three hours with low scores...

They played a series, playing for points. The two countries with the most points in each group continued. They will now be playing cup, lose a game and your out. I think, frightfully complicated this non-USA sport.

In the NBA, NFL, NHL, MLB you don't have to win the last game of the regular season to qualify for the playoffs either.

Don't lie to me.

I know that the objective is a big communal drunk with folks trying to claim superiority for their homeland.

Tonight it's looking like they'll have to update Gary Lineker's definition of football.....

22 players chase a ball and after 30 minutes the Germans have already won.....

They haven't forgiven the Untermenschen for 2002. Nor should they have. Hopefully, the plentiful churrascarias of New York are hiring busboys.

The world cup cost Brazil $1 billion for every goal Germany scored.

Have you more worldly folks who follow the other kind of football made similar progress, or do you still just have massive nationalistic riots after big games?
Gabriel, Not_Karl...

Sorry about your loss to that other nationality that frequents this forum.

And, I see that your country has had some rioting in accordance with tradition.

Back in 2010 I thought the world was giving that little guy too much credit. I still feel the same.

Did that one German from the last minute penalty kick get up off the ground yet or did they just amputate his leg right there on the field?

One of my black cats spent the whole first half sitting on the TV -on the VCR over it, actually-, and my other black cat did the same for the second half and the extended time (don't know if that is the correct term in English, but I am too lazy to Google it even if I am losing much more time writing this explanation). I wonder if that had something to do with the result :? .

Sad, yes, but then I looted and distroyed some innocent people's businesses (and hopefully lives) to cheer me up. One must respect traditions.

I missed that  . Probably I was too busy lighting torches and preparing Molotov cocktails when that happened  . (Glad to see -read- you, Dummy! :D)

Well...I don't know that he deserves hatred, I mostly think he was given a task he wasn't really up to. He's a great individual player, but his leadership skills are comparable to those of a roadkilled cat. As far as raw skill he may even be arguably better than that other Argentine #10 he's often compared to, but he has none of the latter's inventiveness or charisma, he's just not a leader.

If i were an Argentina fan, I'd just be proud that my team looked way, way better than the hosts. Granted, a herd of three-legged mules would have looked better than the hosts, but still....

Apparently we are...

... but I would have had the whole team impaled, burnt at the stake and then drawn and quartered.
