Before my Absolute Complete Knowledge of All Airline Logos in the Universe is praised, I must confess that I only recognized China Eastern, for Meridiana I had to Google  .

Also, "bobo" is Spanish for boob (of the "moron" kind, not the body part).

Indeed! Quite worrisome!

And this was said with seriousness and not sarcasm?

I must pay more attention there, instead of waiting for Not_Karl to post here...or not_

yes
...and this was said regarding one of my rants about fundamentals, no less.

Perhaps we are getting close to the "end of time" and the ultimate NEAR TOTAL DISASTER!!!!!? (Or maybe a discussion forum server crash?)

We should give ourselves to Airbus, just in case.

Here's one writer who thinks so: http://www.cracked.com/article_24284_5- ... cards.html

Evan would no doubt be shocked that modern systems could somehow be worse than their predecessors... if he could be made to believe it.

Depressing :( .
Still the question of why some well trained, fairly experienced guys would violate procedure and land with an excessively negative vertical speed seems like one we should be interested in...
Pressure from a massive backlog generated by an obsolete system's failure?

There's a thread at a different obscure website that would benefit from your inputs.

Plus, wasn't this already offered as a unsubstantiated speculative causal mechanism in the thread you reference? ;)

But why do I regularly return to Jetphotos? Because of Les Abend.

At the advice of Not_Karl, and inspiration from the pedantic jabbing of Gabriel that in a constant descent a high-lift wing does not_produce more lift, I am (hopefully) trolling Boing Bobby to see if he will bite on the old downwind-turn 'paradox'.

Perhaps Evan will cite a procedure for turning into a tail wind.

Not popcorn-worthy so far :( .
Gabriel, the hell better aeroengineer, is engaged. If you critically analyze Boeing Bobbieee's words, he states that a plane will lose airspeed from gaining the tailwind, however in his 500,000 thousand hours of multiple aircraft, including a Piper Cub, he has never found that to be a problem of any practical significance...

It might be geek-engineer-type popcorn, rather than ass-hattery popcorn.

Noted, but it is not yet exciting enough for me. It may improve -or Not_- when/if BBie answers Gabie's question. Or if treadmills are added to the discussion  .

That topic really doesn't work without the priceless contributions of the dearly departed, much-lamented, severely missed and rued upon St Donald the Mighty and Righteous Wrench, and his near-Gabriellian contributions concerning his tailwind turns in a Beaver in SouthEast Buttfuck, Alaksa in the days of Eisenhower.

A somewhat familiar cargo pilot is full of "it"(therefore needing bigger facilities).
I hadn't thought of that  .
FAO: Not_Karl: I assume you are aware of even more meanings of "it".

Downwind turns... meh.

Takeoff performance monitoring and Gabbie's hard headedness vs. Boeingie Bobbie's confidence that he already monitors takeoff performance and that more 'false' warnings will cause crashes AND his 40 years of experience...

...where's my pic of Michael eating popcorn?
