Hello again

Postby Robert Hilton » Tue Jan 27, 2015 10:00 am

First, apologies for my long absence from this site. Sometimes other activities take up your time and attention. This has been the case for me.
I have been concentrating on setting up a separate business involved in technical training for the transport sector. My normal working life has also been rather fluid the last few years, taking up most of my attention.
I recently had a rap on the knuckles, life telling me in no uncertain way that we are all bound by it's fickle ways.
In late December I had an epileptic fit that lasted some eight hours. It is the first I have ever had, having been rigorously tested at an early age I realised that it was not a good sign. I was lucky though, I woke still knowing my own name, date of birth, where, what and could still talk in two languages! The MRI scan shows I have a tumor about 3 x 2 inches in size on the right side of my brain. The prognosis is at this stage very sketchy, two things I do know is that it will be surgery and chemo. That means I have an enforced and extended period of non activity. How it all pans out is dependant on the operation. I hope to know more somewhere around mid February.
I shall endeavour to follow the site more often now and maybe even comment now and then!

In EMS training they taught us that any seizure lasting much more than 5-10 minutes would be considered "long". You were actually seizing for eight straight hours?

Hi Flyboy,
I believe they put me under due to the severity of the fit. I know at the beginning I was drifting in and out of it. Then it was eight hours later.
I was just glad that I could walk and talk.

Quick update.
I had a consultation last week. The tumor is a bit bigger than a tangerine and nestles up against the speech centre, a nerve bundle and is wrapped around an artery. They will operate to remove a portion of it and the rest will be dealt with when they have determined the actual sort of tissue.
It will probably be chemo but time will tell.
I even got a 3D model of the damned thing as part of a trial they are running at the moment. They print one up so the patient can see the problem better. He's called Dave btw........

Quick update.
Thanks.

Not one to get overly religious and personal on this strange discussion board, but more well wishes, and prayers...we have some similar, tough issues with a couple of "once-removed" family members here.

Looking forward to additional Robert Hilton posts regarding your health and even, perhaps relevant aviation stuff.

Robert, So sorry to hear that news. Pulling for you!!!!
you still have to find a crew willing to fly this "barely airworthy" heap
no such thing as "barely airworthy" it's either Airworthy or Not
100% incorrect Ever hear of Ferry Permit? issued for Non airworthy aircraft
LOL
