I will say it's nice that news outlets, at least my favorite one, are bothering to present entire articles about Gene's passing. It seems the trend these days is to place a headline saying "XXXX has died" that links to a mostly-generic story about everyone we lost in a particular year. You think they could find a better way to memorialize someone's character and contributions than tossing them into a box with all the other people that got died in a particular calendar period.
