JetPhoto Pre-Screening Thread...

Kodak 110 Pocket Instamatic camera with a sliding zoom/wind angle option and 400 ASA film.

Date: 1981

Airport where 3BS did about half of his PPL training. Note houses and trees that resulted in a ~500 ft displaced threshold. I have no idea how close the Commander is to the runway, BUT I think it would be beyond the hold short line at a typical airport.

I could probably do some cropping and get that quaint look ATL crew described there. Would I entitle it a 172 and risk the commander being foreground clutter, or is it vice versa with the Cessna being background color.

Graininess/focus is definitely a problem, it's 400 ASA color film- famous for that graininess.

Being somewhat serious: This was an attempt to have a real 'artistic' photograph', but it's kind of a failure. I am semi serious about the cropping (and assuming I had all of the clarity dust spot stuff they fret over, there. Historical documentation of a different time in general aviation and an airport that is now obliterated by industrial / office parks.

Oh yeah, my AVATAR is 'stolen' from someone landing at this very runway some years later, after the house and trees were removed.

I do not_consider this to be photographic, but more of a documentation.

A view looking the opposite direction, down the runway. I am on the roadway. The houses behind displaced this threshold and the hills on the other end resulted in a very similar 500 ft. threshold displacement. Runway 3000 ft by 50 feet.

Nice!
I have scanned Not_Dad's old slides some time ago and have been thinking of posting them here (but obviously not there), but the quality of the majority of the pictures is very, veeery low... Should I post them nonetheless? Note that some of them do not have the correct date in their EXIF, I would not like to be banned for date cheating...

I've got some that will qualify.

1981 long car journey south to the gliding nationals. Somewhere south of Haast on SH6. The 3 kids in the back see a plane circling to land in the middle of nowhere, we persuade Dad to stop (not that he needed persuading). Plane lands, hitchhiker gets out, pilot unloads lawnmower and proceeds to start mowing the strip. Don't know if Dad told him he was a MoT/CAA (think FAA) employee

Oh no...weedy vegetation foreground clutter! (Actually I LOVE the photo AND Zilog's)

Further humour of why didn't you wait until the mowing was done to take the pic.

Here are some slides of our beloved Aeroparque dating to circa 1976-1978, judging by ARCO's -Aerolíneas Colonia- Convair (bought 1976, by 1978 it was sporting a different livery).
(Details in the file names. Notes: "AA" is Aerolíneas Argentinas, not American Airlines  . "FAU" = Fuerza Aérea Uruguaya, Uruguayan Air Force. "o" = or)

I am suspicious of the individual standing at the fence. While he does not_seem to have a camera, I'm hoping he is not in the practice of advising people on the use of Nair.

This is why I love this place. ALL of the pics here so far are nasty, old and grainy...yet, I appreciate these much much more than the typical jetphoto, there.

Oh, you have dust spots, oh there's weeds, oh the category is wrong, too light, too dark, too much clutter, the horizon isn't level, blah blah blah...

Artsy fartsy photography...not...documentation of historical significance...yeah!

A fenceperv, no doubt. But being the '70s, he was probably more into growing moustaches than on shaving body hair.

I've always liked this song and found this fence-perv youtube entry a while back.

The photography has the roughness we've established in this thread, also the harsh reality that makes all these pictures so good!

Fuzzy focus, spots, clutter, cropping, lighting....and airplanes!

Not sure how this one ended up in the family photo box. Mum thought my Uncle took it but he wouldn't have been born.

It seems to have been taken in the early thirties.

A great plane from a great airline at a great, state-of-the-art (albeit not_international at the time) airport! Photo was probably taken in the 1950's, slightly before my and well before Atrude777's time.

I may still have a picture of the JAL 707 that landed in San Francisco Bay taken from my uncle's sailboat. I'll have to look.

Footnote- When the dude returned to land I was at the approach end of the runway, in the far Southeast corner. A genuine West crosswind caused him to overshoot his turn-to-final a little bit and aiming for me for a few tense seconds (for me, anyway)...finally corrected it as he crossed the threshold.
