The Yuletide is soon upon us.

Postby Ancient Mariner » Mon Dec 18, 2017 5:12 pm

Just few days left.
Nisse-beard grown and ready for the unsuspecting rugrats in Wife's ex-kindergarten. Check
SWMBO's present ready and packed. Check
Sufficient amounts of alcoholic beverages purchased, sorted and stored correctly. Check
Sausages and all sorts of Per's Special Yuletide Foodstuff prepared and ready. Check
Yule tree captured. Check
House and shed duly decorated with enough lights to annoy neighbours. Check
Big pile of forest debris set alight with 20 liters of kerosene, and burning. Check

Bring it on.

1. Indeed.

2. What time shall we arrive?
Here in Vikingland party starts at 16:00 hrs on the 24th, sit-down-at -table time is 17:00 hrs sharp. That's when the church bells, and my wife, goes first bananas, then ballistic.
When you're stuffed to the gills, and Akevitt and Yule-beer oozes out of your ears, it is time for coffee, cognac, Yule-cakes and gifts.
When those are unwrapped, the cognac bottles empty and any kids send of to bed the party starts in earnest.
The 25th is the day for the BIG Yuletide blot with a humongous brunch with eggs every fashion, salmons, herrings, homemade cold cuts and liver pate, Per's Very Special Mustard which will grow hair on your chest, or make them drop off if you have any, cheese of every make, bread of all sorts and stuff I can't remember, but will recognise when I see it.
All washed down with beer, Akevitt or Jagermeister for the wimps.
You're expected before noon, 12:00 hrs we will have rice pudding with real vanilla and one single almond, which I will never find because my wife thinks marzipan makes me fat.
See you!

Per, it sounds just delightful. What are the hazards commonly encountered with this kind of merrymaking?

(...)coffee(...) Yule-cakes and gifts.(...)eggs every fashion,(...)Per's Very Special Mustard(...) cheese of every make, bread of all sorts (...)beer(...)rice pudding with real vanilla and one single almond (...)
I'm interested, especially in the "cheese of every make" and "rice pudding with real vanilla" parts. Please ask your wife to add your almond to Not_Karlie's pudding.

Not many, but
1. Driving the next day is big no-no.
Huge fine, normally one month's salary + bye, bye driving licence for a year or more, maybe jail

2. You WILL put on weight

3. You are likely to offend your wife

4. You WILL offend all other family members

5. You have no idea who gave you what

6. You don't care

Fabulous! Thank you!

monchavo and mrs monchavo are making lemon ice cream, chocolate orange ice cream and spiced fig ice cream for the christmas day family party this year... all bound to be very tasty indeed!

the alcohol and driving laws are not as strict as .NO but still very harsh here in the UK - you can expect to be brought before a judge for drink driving, disqualified from driving for a year, your fine is likely to be hefty. your insurance premium (when you do get your license back) is going to be very, very high indeed.

Tomfoolery, including cowboy recklessness of operating motor vehicles while under the influence of Akkevit and sarcastic suggestions of actually attending Per's event, all aside;

Best holiday wishes to our group, and hoping Santa brings Evan a pedal powered bike, trice, big wheel or something so he can exceed V-speeds and make human miscalculations of guidance and experience momentary distractions.

PS: Per's (and Monchie's) festivities sound, great, but I am most intrigued by Per's allegedly powerful mustard. and

Coleman 's mustard powder, Norwegian heather honey, apple cider vinegar and full fat cream.
Mix as you think right until you like the consistency. Taste, if tongue goes numb before it catches fire you've done good.
If not, add more Coleman 's.

A wise man once asked me if Coleman's made their money from the mustard people eat or the mustard they leave on the side of the plate....

Do you think we can make it to both parties in one of Vandelay Industries' Airbus CJs? With genius airmanship provided by Chief Pilot Flyboy, of course.

Sounds good! :D

If anyone wants to drink and drive without much trouble, come to Not_Karlieland. Until recently you could even kill someone while reckless driving, drunk or not, without strong legal consequences, but apparently (I hope) this has changed.

This is still the case in the UK. "Causing death by dangerous driving" may see you serving a stretch of a few (less than five) years.

Up here in them Viking mountains we had minus 8 C, enough snow and champagne and many, many things that went whizz, bang.
A happy 2018 to all.

Modified for humour.

Perhaps they brought Evan a 1) Mattel big wheel, 2) comprehensive crash suit/helmet and 3) a type specific checklist for #1.

Well, the three wise men are yet to come, but Santa Per brought me a single present: A somewhat luxurious looking bottle of liquid soap from a female oriented brand. Close enough?

You're welcome. Use it wisely. The soap, not the bottle.
