FIFA 2018 Rusia World Cup thread

Postby Peminu » Tue Jun 19, 2018 2:05 am

I see why nobody has posted a thread like this:
USA, Italy, Norway and a lot others are OUT.
Argentina barely tying a game and failing a penalty shot. Brasil only having a tie with Switzerland.

But MEXICO defeated the actual World Champion Germany, teaching them a lesson.

And there is also a lot to talk about how to move around Rusia in old (soviet and western) planes and charters for the people that arrive from different countries in 40 year old tin cans.
Just another cast away from AD.com that reached AD.info island.

Spanish for "muse", sounds like an Argentinian colloquial way of calling mozzarella pizza ("muza" -rella) and Our Saviour, this guy:

Oh my Airbus...

No habla español: Our electronic traffic billboards (correct English name will be greatly appreciated) were showing support to our national team... but, yesterday, they supported (and, later, thanked) Nigeria.

I understand that Germany have been knocked out at the group stages, and that the last time this happened was 1938. Does anyone know how they responded that time?

This next post will be a combination of a comment on this thread's theme as well as a brief flight report.

Having been a DFB fan since 1982 and having access to non-rev travel, having not been on a 747 of any kind since 2000 and never having been on a 744, I woke up yesterday and decided it might be fun to non-rev on LH465 to FRA, watch that game at some local establishment and proceed back home the next day on LH464 (that will be tomorrow). So, I packed up my fan apparel, and ere long was sitting in rather inglorious seat 39F on D-ABTK "Kiel". I didn't died.

Upon arrival at Hilton Garden Inn at FRA, I changed into aforementioned fan apparel and took the train downtown where, after doing some walking around Kaiserstrasse, Muhchenstrasse etc, I settled upon O'Reillys Irish Pub where I enjoyed two Coke Zeros and a bacon cheeseburger while watching the painful embarrassment that ensued. I then returned to the Garden Inn, where I am writing these lines.

I will update this soon should I also not did died on LH464 tomorrow.

At least I still look good in said fan apparel.

Flyboy,
What did you think of the trip over and the experience? I am genuinely interested in your thoughts and feelings as a professional experiencing a very different kind of aircraft as a passenger. I am conscious that many Americans have never tried 747s simply because there are so few in operation on domestic flights. And as we know, 40% of Americans have never left the Americas (!)

Absolutely- ATL crew needs to make a semi-parallel post, there.

LSD-747 would make at least three consecutive, fond, marginally comprehedable replies.

I had a blast! It was great to ride the whale, it's nice that LH is keeping them for a while. Can't say it felt much different than any other widebody, except that I forgot how very loud those flap drives are. Lufty people are VERY nice to offline crewmembers (on BOTH flights BOTH pursers made sure to come back and say hello to me even though I was sitting way back in economy), there were two meals served on both flights (no, I won't be posting any pics of my knees), boarding process was handled with trademark German efficiency at both airports (it helped that I was allowed to board with First and Business Class). Clearance and security procedure in FRA was a breeze (again, it helped being in uniform), I would estimate that the TOTAL time I spend on passport control, customs, and security (that's both inbound and outbound) was less than 30 minutes, and it would have been even less had there not been an Air Canada crew coming in ahead of me.

It was interesting to observe some non-US air carrier procedures. Some things LH does would never happen on a US carrier, and I'll just leave it at that. Interesting also to observe the supposedly much more civilized, much more travel-savvy European passengers. I was sitting next to an Italian travel agent who had some 70 customers on the flight. They were in jeopardy of missing their FRA-FCO connection due to a nearly hour-long delay that we took at MCO due to thunderstorms. She was having a mild panic attack because her 70 very culturally advanced, hugely travel-savvy Italian customers (who differ radically from 40% of Americans) were convinced their very lives would be over if they didn't make that FCO flight, and were letting her know as much. All assurances that there were other flights to FCO seemed of no avail, even when made by me in uniform and in Italian. So, there was that.

Enjoyed the stay itself, the Garden Inn is very modern and comfortable, plenty of food right there at "The Squaire"(sic), quick walk across the skyway to the terminal. Train ride downtown barely 15 minutes.

Will definitely do this again. Attached is a pic of my ride back from FRA, D-ABVW not surprisingly named Wolfsburg.`

Also, LHB and I may have to fire up our LH-747's on MSFS and pretend to fly Flyboy from MCO to FRA and back...

It could be almost as good as Bobby making a real freight run.
