An AA MD-80 from KLIT to KDFW is diverted to Tulsa for a precautionary landing and maintenance.

Would you provide insight into this, Flyboy?
This doesn't seem to make sense: The distance to Tulsa was only slightly less than the distance to DFW, while the distance back to LIT was much shorter.
Does Tulsa offer more maintenance capability than LIT?
Does Tulsa offer better connections to deal with the misrouted passengers?
The ground and altitude tracks also suggest that they may have initiated two approaches- but broke off the first one fairly early. What malfunctions are consistent with that?

Yes. Tulsa is home to AA's heavy maintenance facility, the very one that gained some ill fame after AA191 in Chicago.

I thought the only things in Tulsa were the proverbial steers, queers and an occasional tornado.
Thanks.
