Supersonic N1 thread.

Postby 3WE » Sun Jan 24, 2016 3:31 pm

Yeah, sure there's all sorts of complexities...

BUT

Don't your airliner engines operate near 100% N1 during the takeoff roll?

Simple yes or no will suffice.

Footnotes:
-I think some engines allow 105% N1 or something like that.
-Yeah, there's instances where the engines must be powered up incrementally as you build some speed (like just about every MD-8x takeoff I've ever ridden).
-Yeah, computerized controls are making a few zillion adjustments to all sorts of factors too.

The simple answer is no, we're nowhere near 100% N1. In fact, in my entire career I have NEVER seen 100% N1.

Ok, would you please tell us a rough range of what you see when you are at 'full power' and taking off?

NK-12: 850 RPM, 220"; 556 MPH
GE36: 1395 RPM, 140"; 581 MPH
Thank you.
(I'm actually a little bit disappointed with my chosen engines :()

I would really like to see some manure shovelled to the engines you listed and watch what happens when the shit hits the fan at 100% N1.

Low 90s on the IAE-powered 'Bus. I should add TOGA thrust takeoffs are VERY rare.

Thank you. At 90% N1 most of my ass-hat-not-quite-correct tip speeds are still super sonic-ish.

I have edited my post at JP- reducing turbofan speeds by 10% to address Flyboy's comment that N1 generally only reaches the low '90%s.

I suppose the next step is to make a graph as Ardvark2zz would.
